  17. First should always be firewall and some sort of login failure blocking. No matter what control panel or VPS. Unless managed by the host, most servers/VPS are open to the world at first.

  23. Nothing much. Install a firewall such as CSF and start to use your new VPS. Make sure to use a strong password for the user root.
  24. use whmxtra tools this help you to manage so many things easily. if you are not a system or familiar with the thing this really help you.
  25. Also, install anti-virus e.g. clamAV.
  26. anti-malware tools e.g LMD.
  27. if you are using WordPress type cms website these tools help you.

  30. If you are not familier with the command line then you should start learning, WHM is a great tool however it's not very 'newbie' (I hate that word) friendly, especially when it comes to fixing problems.
  31. Download virtualbox, install CentOS and practice setting up Apache and MySQL server, then have a play around with the settings and follow as many guides as you can. You should be at least familiar with the basics of using the command line before you use WHM/cPanel, especially if it's going to be hosting an important website. There are so many things out of the box that I configure differently in WHM, for example MySQL server and Apache config to better suit the available memory. Firewall protection, and setting up SSH keys should be something else on your to-do list.
  32. Nothing much. Install a firewall such as CSF and start to use your new VPS. Make sure to use a strong password for the user root.
  33. Just configurting the CSF properly is more than nothing much for a newbie.
  34. thanks for everyone replied to my post
  35. i have installed csf and configured it also i installed ClamAV Scanner
  36. Configure firewalls, install CSF, install ClamAV plugins. Make an appropriate hosting environment using easyapache, do php checks and hardening.
  37. Goto Home ?Security Center ?Security Advisor within WHM and scan the system and perform the necessary steps towards it.

  53. Hosting his own sites or selling hosting, he should understand the important of security and optimization of each site otherwise, he will end up wasting money, suspended by his provider, stolen data due to hacked, etc.... big risk that people do not put into considerations.
  54. If he wants to learn linux administration, then do it at his basement and setup some server. He do not even need a cPanel to learn linux administration.
  55. We should help people understand these otherwise, they will go back here and complain about his provider of this and that.

  70. Remove all service ports you're not using from the default list of IPV4 and IPV6 in the CSF allow lists. IF you haven't already.
  71. CSF also defaults to permanent bans. I like to enable temp to perm banning in CSF for say X failures of any service. Gives legit users chance to get back in after a timeout period without contacting an admin. Yet abusive IPs are still permanently banned.
  72. If you are the only one who is accessing WHM, make use of Host Access Control feature in WHM. So that you will be the only one person who have the ability to login to WHM.
