  1. uplift and ennoble humanity. God’s church is filled with varied
  2. gifts and endowed with the Holy Spirit.
  3. From the beginning God has wrought through His people to
  4. bring blessing to the world. To the ancient Egyptian nation God
  5. made Joseph a fountain of life. Through him that whole people was
  6. preserved. Through Daniel God saved the life of all the wise men of
  7. Babylon. These deliverances illustrate the spiritual blessings offered
  8. the world through the God whom Joseph and Daniel worshiped.
  9. Everyone who will show forth Christ’s love to the world is a worker
  10. with God for blessing humanity.
  11. God desired Israel to be as wells of salvation in the world. The
  12. nations of the world had lost the knowledge of God. They had once
  13. known Him; but because “they glorified Him not as God, neither
  14. were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, ... their foolish
  15. heart was darkened.” Romans 1:21. Yet God did not blot them out.
  16. He purposed to give them opportunity to become acquainted with
  17. Him through His chosen people. Through the sacrificial service,
  18. Christ was to be uplifted, and all who would look to Him should live.
  19. The whole system of types and symbols was a compacted prophecy
  20. of the gospel.
  21. But the people of Israel forgot God and failed to fulfill their
  22. [11] holy mission. All their advantages they appropriated for their own
  23. glorification. They shut themselves away from the world in order to
  24. escape temptation. They robbed God of service, and their fellowmen
  25. of a holy example.
  26. Priests and rulers became satisfied with a legal religion. They
  27. thought their own righteousness all-sufficient. The good will of God
  28. to men they did not accept as something apart from themselves, but
  29. connected it with their own merit because of their good works. The
