The Bitcoin has exceeded the value of a troy ounce of gold for the first time.
On Thursday (March 2, 2017), one Bitcoin traded at $1,269 while a troy ounce of gold traded at $1,233.
The value of Bitcoin has been volatile since it was first launched in 2009, but it is continuously climbing since the beginning of 2015, reaching today (March 4, 2017) a value of $1,285.
The current price is being attributed to the recent halving of the Bitcoin mining reward and in general the increasing demand of Bitcoins, especially in China, where the Bitcoin may be used as an option to channel money out of the country.
