The Catholic Archdiocese of Owerri, on Saturday, said it was impossible for the church to vet donations made by individuals......
The Director of Communications of the archdiocese, Fr. George Nwachukwu, said that it would amount to an effort in futility if the church begins to screen donations made to the archdiocese by worshippers.
He said, “We are not vetting donations to the archdiocese. The people are many. We have politicians and other people making donations. It will be very difficult to vet them.”
Asked if the church would return any donation if it realises that the source of the money was not genuine, Nwachukwu said only the apex leadership of the church could respond to that.
The cleric, however, said that the diocese was more interested in winning souls for God.
“Donation is secondary. What is primary is winning souls for the kingdom of God. Structures and infrastructure are not ultimate and as such, the archdiocese is more concerned with winning souls,” he added.
