  1. Not many teams stop Barcelona from scoring - but Olympiacos did.
  2. The Greek side held Ernesto Valverde’s side to a 0-0 draw to become only the second side to keep a clean sheet against them this season - after Real Madrid did likewise in the second-leg of the Spanish Super Cup.
  3. But how did they do it?
  4. Well, it helped that Luis Suarez is currently firing blanks.
  5. But Lionel Messi headed into the game having scored 16 goals in his 15 appearances in all competitions.
  6. So how did they stop the five-time Ballon d’Or winner?
  7. Well, by kicking him.
  8. We’ve already seen what happens when you attempt to man-mark Messi for 90 minutes this season. Girona and Pablo Maffeo did that to great effect - despite losing 3-0.
  9. But Olympiacos’ approach was a bit more brutal.

  11. They seemed to foul Messi whenever he got the ball - much to the annoyance of the Argentine.
  12. But it wasn’t just Messi that was getting annoyed. Suarez tried defending his teammate by squaring up to several Olympiacos players for the constant fouls on Messi.
  13. And Messi too lost his cool.
  14. A video has emerged of him in a heated row with Spanish defender Alberto Botía during the second-half.
  15. After another Botía foul, Messi completely lost his head.
  16. Botía apologised but the Barca superstar wasn’t in a forgiving mood.

  18. What Messi said to Botía
  19. "No, now that's not worth it, first the first and now the second, then you come to the dressing room, then you tell me off," said an angry Messi.
  20. Take a look:
  21. You can’t really blame Messi for being so angry.
  22. Botía had already committed several fouls on Messi that went far behind ‘roughing him up.’
  23. It got to a stage that Botía was endangering Messi and the forward had every right to be annoyed.
  24. Of course, it’s not the first time a player has tried to kick Messi out of the game. Usually, though, he ends the match with a couple of goals and doesn’t need to say a word.
  25. But on Tuesday, Botía got the better of him and Messi had no option but to lick his wounds.
