  7. Photo by on The Background Last year, I was brainstorming an idea for my next product. At the beginning, I was skeptical about the product. Before building actual product, I wanted to validate if people are really interested in the product or not. The best way to find out was to create a simple a signup page and post them on various sites. I built a simple landing page that explains a concept of the product and put email signup option at the beginning as well as at the end of the page. Now it was a time to reach out to the audience. I submitted the product details on Betalist, Beta page and also created an upcoming page on Product Hunt. But, the submission review on Betalist takes a long time and the response rate on Beta page was almost none. So, the next strategy was to reach out to different forums and find a niche audience. I posted on few Facebook groups and asked members about their interest in getting the related to programming courses. The Experiment While I was waiting for responses, I thought to do an experiment with the signup process. I quickly prototyped a chatbot that gives an introduction about the product and asks user to sign up for more updates. I created a messenger chatbot on Chatfuel and connected with a Facebook page. I put messenger plugin next to the email signup box on the web page. Messenger plugin with email signup As I posted on the different groups, many people started to comment and showed their interest in the product. I provided them two options to them for signup, one was the link to website and another was the link of messenger bot. To my surprise, in just a few hours, around 150 people sign up for the new product. The Result After successfully signing up beta users and validating the need of a new site, I compared total signup numbers. It was mind blowing. Out of 150 users, only 53 has signed up using email while 97 people signup through chatbot. The signup through chatbot was almost double. It is important for any product to provide new updates and progress details to beta users. Sharing updates and asking for feedback helps to build the right product for users. After sending new updates through both an email and a messenger chatbot regularly, I have compared the result again. The average open rate and a click rate were significant higher on chatbot. As shown, the open rate on messenger bot is between 75%-98% compared to an open rate of 20%-29% on email. A click rate also showed a similar trend. A messenger has much higher click rate beyond an email. The open rates and click rates are 3x — 5x on chatbot. User response rate on Email Final Thought This demonstrates how chatbot can outperform over traditional email marketing. It clearly shows how much people prefer to use chatbot over emails. If you are an entrepreneur, startup, product manager or maker, launching your next product and want to engage with your beta users, you must provide chatbot as a signup option. You can use the , add the details of your product and you all set to go. You can give new users the chance to sign up for your upcoming product launch, share latest updates about your product and progress with early adopters and beta users, collect feedback and opinion about a product or a feature before and after public debut, send special offers, invites, rewards etc.
