  1. 37. Consecration Of The Church And The World To The Blessed Virgin Mary
  2. O you, who more than any other human being
  3. have been consecrated to the Holy Spirit,
  4. help your Son's Church to persevere
  5. in the same consecration,
  6. so that she may pour out upon all men
  7. the ineffable benefits of redemption
  8. and of sanctification
  9. for the liberation of the whole of creation [cf. Rom 8:21].
  10. You, who were with the Church in the beginning of her mission,
  11. intercede for her in order that,
  12. going all over the world,
  13. she may continually teach all the nations
  14. and proclaim the Gospel to every creature.
  15. May the Word of Divine Truth
  16. and the Spirit of Love
  17. find an opening in the hearts of men,
  18. who, without this truth
  19. and without this love
  20. really cannot live the fullness of life.
  21. You, who have known in the fullest way
  22. the power of the Holy Spirit,
  23. when it was granted to you
  24. to conceive in your virginal womb
  25. and to give birth to the Eternal Word,
  26. obtain for the Church
  27. that she may continue to give new birth
  28. through water and the Holy Spirit
  29. to the sons and daughters
  30. of the whole human family,
  31. without any distinction of language,
  32. race, or culture,
  33. giving them in this way
  34. the "power to become children of God" [Jn 1:12].
  35. You, who are so deeply
  36. and maternally bound to the Church,
  37. preceding the whole People of God
  38. along the way of faith,
  39. hope and charity,
  40. embrace all men who are on the way,
  41. pilgrims through temporal life
  42. towards eternal destinies,
  43. with that love which the Divine Redeemer himself,
  44. your Son, poured into your heart from the Cross.
  45. Be the Mother of all our earthly lives,
  46. even when they become tortuous,
  47. in order that we may all find ourselves,
  48. in the end, in that large community
  49. which your Son called the fold,
  50. offering his life for it as the Good Shepherd.
  51. You, who are the first handmaid
  52. of the unity of the body of Christ,
  53. help us, help all the faithful,
  54. who feel so painfully
  55. the drama of the divisions of Christianity,
  56. to seek with constancy the way
  57. to the perfect unity of the Body of Christ
  58. by means of unconditional faithfulness
  59. to the Spirit of Truth and Love,
  60. which was given to them by your Son
  61. at the cost of the cross and of death.
  62. You, who have always wished to serve!
  63. You who serve as mother of the whole family
  64. of the children of God,
  65. obtain for the Church that,
  66. enriched by the Holy Spirit
  67. with the fullness of hierarchical
  68. and charismatic gifts,
  69. she may continue with constancy
  70. towards the future along the way
  71. of that renewal which comes from
  72. what the Holy Spirit says
  73. and which found expression in the teaching of Vatican II,
  74. assuming in this work of renewal everything
  75. that is true and good,
  76. without letting herself be deceived
  77. either in one direction or in the other,
  78. but discerning assiduously
  79. among the signs of the times
  80. what is useful for the coming of the Kingdom of God.
  81. Mother of men and peoples,
  82. you know all their sufferings
  83. and their hopes.
  84. You feel in a motherly way
  85. all the struggles between good and evil,
  86. between the light and the darkness
  87. which shakes the world
  88. accept our cry
  89. addressed in the Holy Spirit
  90. directly to your heart
  91. and embrace with the love of the Mother
  92. and the Handmaid of the Lord
  93. the peoples who await this
  94. embrace the most and likewise the peoples
  95. whose consecration you, too,
  96. are particularly awaiting.
  97. Take under your motherly protection
  98. the whole human family
  99. which we consecrate to you, O Mother,
  100. with affectionate rapture.
  101. May the time of peace and freedom,
  102. the time of truth,
  103. justice and hope,
  104. approach for everyone.
  105. O you,
  106. who through the mystery of your particular holiness,
  107. free of all stain from the moment of your conception
  108. feel in a particular deep way that
  109. "the whole creation has been groaning in travail." [Rom.8:22],
  110. while, "subjected to futility,"
  111. it hopes that it will be
  112. "set free from its bondage to decay" [Rom.8:20-21],
  113. You contribute unceasingly
  114. to the "revealing of the sons of God,"
  115. for whom "the creation waits with eager longing." [Rom. 8:19],
  116. to enter the freedom of their joy [cf. Rom.8:21].
  117. O Mother of Jesus,
  118. now glorified in heaven in body and in soul,
  119. as the image and beginning of the Church,
  120. which is to have its fulfillment
  121. in the future age here on earth,
  122. until the day of the Lord comes [cf. 2 Pet. 3: 10],
  123. do not ceases to shine
  124. before the pilgrim people of God
  125. as a sign of sure hope and consolation (cf. Lumen Gentium 68).
  126. Holy Spirit of God,
  127. Who are worshipped and glorified
  128. with the Father and the Son!
  129. Accept these words of humble consecration
  130. addressed to You in the heart of Mary of Nazareth,
  131. Your bride and mother of the Redeemer,
  132. who the Church too calls her mother,
  133. because right from the Upper Room at Pentecost
  134. she has learned from her own motherly vocation!
  135. Accept these words of the pilgrim Church,
  136. uttered amid toils and joys,
  137. fears and hopes,
  138. words which are the expression
  139. of humble and confident trust,
  140. words with the Church,
  141. forever consecrated to You,
  142. Spirit of the Father
  143. and of the Son,
  144. in the Upper Room at Pentecost,
  145. does not cease to repeat together with you
  146. to her divine Bridegroom.
  147. Come!
  148. "The Spirit and the Bride say to the Lord Jesus
  149. 'Come..." [cf. Rev. 22:17].
  150. "Thus the Church is seen to be
  151. a people brought into unity of the Father,
  152. the Son, and the Holy Spirit" (Lumen Gentium, 4).
  153. Thus we repeat today:
  154. "Come", trusting in your motherly intercession,
  155. O Clement, O Loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.
  156. Pope John Paul II ,prayed before the icon of Our Lady, in Salus Populi Romani, on December 8,1990.
