The most famous tourist attraction and a well-known landmark in the country is the Cotopaxi Volcano. This volcano is an active and live volcano – it is within the Cotopaxi National Park and the last known eruption of Cotopaxi was recently, just this August 2015. The first people to climb the volcano were Wilhelm Reiss and Angel Escobar back in 1872. Cotopaxi is also part of the Andes range. Before the eruption in 2015, Cotopaxi has around 100 climbers each weekend. The volcano has an elevation of 19,347 feet with prominence of 7,884 feet.
