The German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, on her first visit to Mali, has pledged to help the country fight terrorism, saying the situation there is still troubled.
She said Germany is concerned that a peace deal signed between the government of Mali and armed factions in the north of the country is yet to be fully implemented.
Germany currently has 430 military personnel in the country as part of the UN peacekeeping mission in Mali (MINUSMA).
Mrs Merkel said her country will further support Mali on security, the fight against terrorism and the control of illegal migration.
The German chancellor arrived in Niger this morning on the second leg of her three-country tour, which she finish in Ethiopia, where a six-month state of emergency has just been declared.
