Conceptual skill is much more important for top-level managers since so many of their decisions affect many parts of the organization. Nevertheless, it is good training for supervisors to develop a conceptual viewpoint early in their careers. Although it may not always be apparent, every action taken in an organization has ramifications elsewhere. The defective part example just mentioned illustrates this fact.
