  1. SSD vs HDD
  2. So now that I'm running servers with SSD's instead of HDD's I'm thinking that the SSD's will last longer since they have no moving parts. I know others have been using SSD for awhile now and I would be interested to know if they do actually last longer and what the other benefits are.

  14. Ofcourse SSD has benefits over SATA , the data processing speed for SSD have been the main factor for its consideration. However you need to keep checking the status of any disks after a specific time of interval to make sure that there things are running fine.

  20. SSD absolutely the better choice in performance terms and longevity terms. The amount of HDDs I have replaced during my time in the data center is enormous. SSD certainly faster, much faster, got no moving parts and it's few steps ahead technology wise, so if you can afford it - go for it.
  21. As the user above me said, health monitoring is something you MUST Do regardless if its HDD or SSD, if you can run health check on monthly basis or you have certain health control / monitoring tool installed, that's an important part of any hosted HDD/SSD/Storage. Simply said, if you can't afford losing your data and bring needless down times - don't take it easy, keep your storage always in check!

  23. SSD technology makes load speed much faster than HDD.
  24. HDDs still have moving parts and SSDs still have no moving parts -- but reliability has gone from "SSDs less reliable" to "SSDs more reliable" over the past couple of years.
  25. There are formulas and key specs to look at that allow you to figure out with fair reliability how long a drive will last.
  26. But the bottom line with SSDs is, buy top-line drives (I like Intel's S3500s when I can get them). IMO, using consumer grade SSDs rather than enterprise grade is short sighted cost savings.

  31. If they are data center grade SSD, they'll be far better, less power, less heat, quieter, no moving parts. SSD or HDD in this day in age, they well fail time to time regardless. IMO they both have a long life span, but one out of so many will eventually fail.
  32. SSD are better than HDD in performance vice and things, but lasting longer has nothing to do with ssd. disk can fail after 5 minutes after setting it up..
  33. We always recommend our clients to purchase server with SSD drives due to faster speed, price, capacity, and availability.

  38. They are for sure worth the price, it is obvious when you go from HDD to SSD just how much of an improvement they are.

  44. There is a noticeable difference in performance from HDD to SSD, but both do fail eventually. There is also a huge difference in quality from desktop grade SSD to enterprise SSD. Better performance and reliability is well worth the cost.

  51. Whilst I often argue for RAM over SSD, my laptop has SSD and I wouldn't be without it!
  52. I picked up a new flash drive recently since my external hard drive is too big for mobility and the travel drive that I bought 10 years back doesn't hold much, it's only a half a Gig. I was surprised when I started looking at these new flash drives which are the same size as my travel drive but hold a LOT more data. The one I got holds 32GB. Since I bought an Android 2in1 laptop for mobile purposes I needed an external drive that stores my passwords, websites, etc. so I can use it on multiple computers and I can keep it all in one place.
  53. I imagine the flash drive is sort of like an SSD. I'm trying to find out if my Android laptop has SSD or HDD however, I couldn't find it in the specs. I noticed it is totally quiet when I use it so if it isn't SSD or HDD it wouldn't surprise me if it's a flash drive. It's only 32GB so my external flash drive is just as big. So it gives me quite a bit of space.

  58. I have been using a SSD as a primary drive on my computer since 3 years and it works much faster compared to traditional hard drives.
  59. I agree. I just purchased a new (well refurb) PC that come with a 320GB HDD which my old PC only had a 160GB with a 500GB 2nd HDD.
  60. so i decided to get an SSD drive (£45 for a 120GB SSD) and i fitted this as the primary drive and installed the OS and setting up so everything else is downloaded/installed and saved on the HDD (which is now the 2nd drive) and i noticed the difference straight away is booting up the PC

  65. I use SSDs for more than 3 years on servers and on my PC. SSD last longer and it's way better in terms of performance and speed.
