Director of the series, Francis Lawrence, talked during an interview with about Katniss' struggles and shortcomings after being faced with a love triangle as well as the impending war between the rebels and the government. During the next film, Katniss will be caught between two of her love interests -- Peeta and Gale. While Peeta is being held prisoner in the Capitol, Gale is fighting in the rebellion alongside Katniss. Katniss wants to save Peeta from the clutches of President Snow as she feels it was her fault that he was captured in the first place. At the same time, she is feeling the pressure of being the face of the rebellion. Since she served as the inspiration and source of strength that fueled the rebellion, she is put into a difficult situation. Director Lawrence has confirmed that Katniss' love triangle is still heavily at play, only this time it is more difficult for the protagonist because of the situation she is in. Having gone through the games one more time and having lost Peeta and having been run through the wringer, she's even more damaged. So you find her in a more agitated place.
