During "Free Time" you can interact and spend time with your fellow students. Giving characters their favorite presents will trigger a special event/cutscene with that character. Your rewards for these events are skill points and skills that are helpful during a Class Trial.
Pages refers to the characters' report cards in your ElectroID. Each student has one (basic profile) page by default, and each Free Time event adds one additional page.
Since Chapter 2 has 5 Free Time events I suggest farming that if you want to get all the skills and skill points. You'll get plenty of Monokuma Medals when you complete the Class Trial.
Item names might be slightly incorrect, but it shouldn't be hard to figure out what is what.
