  2. I'm building a site that will allow users to upload and sell photos and videos. The site will use Wordpress with several plugins to enable my particular use case.

  18. To this end, I am looking for suggestions for web hosts with the following features:
  20. 1) FFMPEG for video encoding, thumbnail creation
  21. 2) DDOS protection
  22. 3) Free or reasonably priced wildcard SSL certs
  23. 4) Hosting in Europe or Iceland
  24. 5) Shared hosting (to build MVP, but willing to move up to VPS as well)
  25. 6) CDN capability
  26. 7) Cpanel
  27. 8) Domain alias / parking
  28. 9) Allows adult content (legal as defined by U.S. laws, of course)
  29. 10) NGINX Web Server
  30. 11) Responsive tech support
  31. 12) PHP 4-7, PHP.ini management, .HTACCES management, ImageMagik and GD libraries
  33. What's a reasonable price to pay for either shared hosting or VPS for the features listed above?

  39. You won't be able to do this on a Shared Hosting, it's going to run you into a lot of issues. Depending on the diskspace you require and the BW that will factor your price on a VPS. You will also need somewhere between 4-6GB of RAM and atleast 2+ CPU's.

  44. Best to get a dedicated server considering ffmpeg is hungry on I/O including CPU.

  56. Look for providers with 'semi dedicated' or 'enterprise' hosting with more CPU RAM and other server resources. Perhaps they will meet your requirements. You can also contact a provider of your choice for a custom package.

  64. "Offshore" is nonsense. All countries have laws that govern content. If anything, USA is most friendly towards this sort of content.

  73. - Avoid TMDHosting - they tried to scam me and make me pay double the actual renewal fee and kept insisting even after I showed proof backing up what I was saying.
  74. - Avoid HostGator (and all EIG brands) like bubonic plague, they’re the cesspit at the bottom of the hosting world.
