  1. It was a dark and stormy night, and Mary was home alone in her small cottage on the outskirts of town. She had always been a bit of a scaredy-cat, and the howling wind and crashing thunder only served to unnerve her further.
  3. As she settled into bed, Mary couldn't shake the feeling that she was being watched. She tried to brush it off as her imagination getting the best of her, but the feeling only seemed to intensify.
  5. Suddenly, she heard a loud knock at the door. Trembling, she got out of bed and made her way to the door, trying to convince herself that it was just a neighbor in need of help. But as she peered through the peephole, she saw no one.
  7. Frantically, she tried to unlock the door, but it wouldn't budge. It was as if something was holding it shut from the other side. And then, she heard the laughter. Low and sinister, it seemed to be coming from all around her.
  9. Mary knew she had to get out of there. She grabbed her phone and dialed 911, but the line was dead. She was completely cut off from the outside world.
  11. As the laughter grew louder and more frenzied, Mary knew she was running out of time. She had to find a way out or she would be trapped in that house with whatever was lurking outside forever.
  13. With her heart pounding in her chest, Mary gathered her courage and made a break for it. She ran to the kitchen, searching for a way out. And that's when she saw it - a glint of metal in the darkness. It was a knife, and Mary knew she had to use it to defend herself.
  15. As the laughter closed in around her, Mary brandished the knife and prepared to face whatever horror lay waiting for her in the night.
