  1. WinRAR - What's new in the latest version
  2. Version 4.20
  3. 1. Changes in RAR compression:
  4. a) RAR general compression algorithm is optimized for better
  5. utilization of several processor cores. While some speed gain
  6. is possible even in single processor mode, best results
  7. are achieved in multi-core environment.
  8. Speed gain depends on data type and average file size.
  9. Several cores are utilized more efficiently when compressing
  10. large files.
  11. b) we had to increase memory requirements to achieve higher
  12. compression speed. General RAR compression algorithm allocates
  13. about 120 MB comparing to 40 MB in WinRAR 4.11;
  14. c) RAR text compression algorithm cannot utilize several CPU cores
  15. efficiently, so its performance in multiprocessor environment
  16. is much lower than for general algorithm. Also its decompression
  17. speed is much lower than in general algorithm regardless of
  18. CPU number. So we decided to disable the text algorithm by default.
  19. If you need maximum possible compression ratio for plain text data
  20. regardless of speed, you can enable the text compression
  21. in "Advanced compression parameter" dialog. Press "Compression..."
  22. button on "Advanced" page of archiving dialog to access it.
  23. You can also change this option permanently in default compression
  24. profile;
  25. In the command line mode the text compression can be enabled
  26. with -mct switch;
  27. d) "Fastest" (-m1) compression mode also supports several processor
  28. cores now. In 4.11 it could use only a single processor core.
  29. 2. RAR general decompression algorithm speed is slightly improved,
  30. though not to same extent as RAR compression. RAR decompression
  31. is not able to use several processor cores, so its performance
  32. does not depend on a number of cores.
  33. 3. Changes in ZIP compression:
  34. a) now ZIP compression supports several processor cores resulting
  35. in noticeably higher performance in multi-core environment.
  36. Single CPU ZIP compression is also faster than in 4.11;
  37. b) memory use for ZIP compression is increased to about 15 MB.
  38. 4. Recovery volume creating and processing can use several CPU cores
  39. resulting in higher speed. Though, typically hard drive seek speed
  40. is a limiting factor for recovery volumes, so this gain is most
  41. noticeable when working with solid state drive.
  42. 5. Now the allowed <threads> value for -mt<threads> switch is 1 - 32,
  43. not 0 - 16 as before.
  44. 6. "Find files" command can search data in 7-Zip archives.
  45. Previously "Find files" did not support .7z archive format.
  46. 7. Windows 2000 is not supported by WinRAR and WinRAR self-extracting
  47. modules anymore.
  48. 8. "Save current settings" button in "Advanced SFX options" dialog
  49. is now available only when converting an existing archive to SFX.
  50. Options saved with this button are applied only to convert to SFX
  51. operation.
  52. If you create or update SFX archive, only SFX options stored
  53. in default compression profile are used. Options saved
  54. in "Advanced SFX options" dialog are ignored for these operations.
  55. Version 4.11
  56. 1. Bugs fixed:
  57. a) WinRAR did not store NTFS "Compressed" attribute, when creating
  58. RAR archives;
  59. b) WinRAR crashed in command line mode if @filelist parameter
  60. was present and 'filelist' did not exist. This bug affected
  61. only WinRAR.exe, not RAR.exe;
  62. c) if -x*\somefolder\* exclusion mask was specified when archiving
  63. and if name of current folder contained 'somefolder',
  64. WinRAR excluded all files and stopped creating an archive;
  65. d) GUI self-extracting archives did not work in Windows
  66. Preinstallation Environment (Windows PE).
  67. Version 4.10
  68. 1. WinRAR can create ZIP archives of practically any size.
  69. 2 GB archive size and 65535 file number ZIP limitations of previous
  70. WinRAR versions are not valid anymore.
  71. 2. WinRAR can create multivolume ZIP archives, which are also known as
  72. split ZIP files.
  73. ZIP volumes have names like 'volname.zip', 'volname.z01', 'volname.z02'.
  74. Use a volume with ".zip" file extension in all archive processing
  75. operations like starting extraction or opening an archive.
  76. Unlike RAR volumes, ZIP volumes cannot be self-extracting.
  77. WinRAR needs to have access to all ZIP volumes of multivolume file set
  78. at the same time, when creating or unpacking them. So it is impossible
  79. to create or unpack ZIP volumes on removable disks, one volume
  80. per disk. You need to create them all in the same folder.
  81. 3. Added the high precision file time support in ZIP archives.
  82. WinRAR can store and extract modification, creation and last access
  83. file time in ZIP archives with 100 nanosecond precision.
  84. You need to set "High precision modification time" option in "Time"
  85. part of archiving dialog to store all 3 times in archive.
  86. Set appropriate "File time" options in "Advanced" part of extraction
  87. dialog to choose times to extract.
  88. 4. Added support for Unicode names stored in ZIP extra field data.
  89. Different ZIP tools store Unicode names either in file header
  90. or in ZIP extra field and now WinRAR can correctly process both types
  91. of Unicode names.
  92. 5. "Synchronize archive contents" option and -as command line switch are
  93. supported in ZIP format.
  94. 6. Modifications of switch -ag behavior:
  95. a) -ag can be used with all RAR and WinRAR commands, not just
  96. with archiving only;
  97. b) 'N' format character behavior differs in archiving and non-archiving
  98. operations. When archiving, it is incremented until the first unused
  99. name is found. In non-archiving operations like extracting it selects
  100. the existing archive preceding the first unused name;
  101. c) 'I' format character allows to specify minutes regardless of presence
  102. and position of 'H' (hours) in format string. It can be used
  103. instead of 'M' (minutes), when you wish to place minutes before hours
  104. or do not need hours at all.
  105. 7. By default, WinRAR proposes to update an archive if viewer modified
  106. an opened file or created any new files. New "Ignore modifications for"
  107. option in "Settings/Viewer" dialog allows to disable such behavior.
  108. You can enter one or several file masks separated by spaces here
  109. and WinRAR will not prompt to update an archive if file created
  110. or modified by viewer matches one of these masks.
  111. 8. Changes in volume size input field. Now you can select size units
  112. in the drop down list to the right of volume size. Previous way
  113. to define size modifiers, by entering 'k', 'm', etc. character
  114. after the numeric size value, is also supported.
  115. 9. Changes in "Predefined sizes" in "Define volume sizes" dialog.
  116. Floppies and ZIP disks are replaced by 5 MB and 100 MB volumes,
  117. added new entries for maximum FAT32 file size and for Blu-ray disks.
  118. 10. New "Wipe files if password is set" option in "Options" page of
  119. archiving dialog. If you prefer to always delete encrypted files
  120. securely, you can enable "Wipe files if password is set"
  121. in the default compression profile.
  122. 11. New "Wipe temporary files/Encrypted only" option in "Settings/Security".
  123. It allows to use a slower and more secure delete for temporary files
  124. extracted from archives identified by WinRAR as encrypted.
  125. Quick delete is used for all other temporary files.
  126. 12. Changes in "Convert archives" command:
  127. a) now it is possible to convert encrypted archives. Previously
  128. "Convert archives" command skipped them.
  129. Though, if you still prefer to skip them, you can do it
  130. by enabling "Skip encrypted archives" option in "Convert archives"
  131. dialog. It might be useful if you wish to run the conversion
  132. command in unattended mode, avoiding password prompts;
  133. b) special "rar2" archive type, which was specific for RAR 1.x
  134. and 2.x archives, is removed. Now "rar" archive type controls
  135. conversion of all versions of RAR archives.
  136. Since the convert command does not need to detect RAR archive
  137. version anymore, the initial search for archives is performed
  138. faster, resulting in shorter delay before displaying
  139. "Convert archives" dialog.
  140. 13. New -log[fmt][=name] switch allows to write archive and file names
  141. to log file in archiving command for RAR and ZIP formats and also
  142. in extracting, deleting and listing commands for RAR format.
  143. This switch is especially useful, when you need to further process
  144. an archive created with -ag or -v switches, because -log provides
  145. the archive name generated by WinRAR.
  146. 14. New -@[+] switch allows to process all parameters starting from
  147. '@' character either as file names (-@) or as file lists (-@+).
  148. 15. "Setup program" SFX options are moved from "General" to "Setup" page
  149. of "Advanced SFX options" dialog. Both "Run after extraction"
  150. and "Run before extraction" are now multiline, so it is possible
  151. to specify several setup programs for same SFX archive.
  152. 16. "SetupCode" SFX script command instructs SFX archive to wait
  153. for termination of setup program and return the exit code of
  154. setup program increased by 1000 as the exit code of SFX executable.
  155. GUI equivalent of this command is "Wait and return exit code" option
  156. on "Setup" page of "Advanced SFX options" dialog.
  157. 17. SFX does not support "S" (create in the top level of Start Menu)
  158. "Shortcut" command mode anymore. Recent Windows versions do not allow
  159. programs to add items to the top of Start Menu.
  160. 18. Volume size in archiving and wizard dialogs can be specified as
  161. a decimal fraction. Decimal mark is defined by Windows regional
  162. settings.
  163. -v<size> command line switch also allows decimal fractions.
  164. In command line mode the dot (.) is always used as the decimal mark.
  165. For example, -v1.5g switch means 1.5 gigabytes.
  166. Version 4.01
  167. 1. Added support for file sizes stored in binary format in TAR archives.
  168. Some TAR archives use the binary size format instead of octal
  169. for files larger than 8 GB.
  170. 2. Bugs fixed:
  171. a) "Repair" command failed to properly reconstruct structure
  172. of RAR archives, which contained at least one file with packed
  173. size exceeding 4 GB.
  174. This bug did not affect the recovery record based repair.
  175. It happened only if recovery record was not found and WinRAR
  176. performed reconstruction of archive structure;
  177. b) even if "Do not extract paths" option in "Advanced" part of
  178. extraction dialog was set as the default, WinRAR still unpacked
  179. file paths if called from Explorer context menu;
  180. c) after entering a wrong password for encrypted ZIP archive,
  181. sometimes WinRAR ignored subsequent attempts to enter a valid
  182. password;
  183. d) "Wizard" command did not allow to create self-extracting
  184. and multivolume archives, when compressing a single folder
  185. or a file without extension;
  186. e) "Import settings from file" command did not restore multiline
  187. comments in WinRAR compression profiles;
  188. f) when converting RAR volumes having name1.name2.part#.rar name format,
  189. "Convert archives" command erroneously removed ".name2" name part.
  190. So resulting archive had name1.rar file name instead of expected
  191. name1.name2.rar;
  192. g) RAR could crash when creating a new archive with -agNNN switch
  193. if archive number in generated name was 110 or larger;
  194. h) WinRAR failed to display non-English file names in 7-Zip archives
  195. properly if they used a non-default code page. It was the display
  196. only problem, such names were unpacked correctly.
  197. Version 4.00
  198. 1. RAR decompression speed is improved. Depending on data type,
  199. decompression can be up to 30% faster than in previous versions.
  200. Both the general RAR algorithm and most of special RAR multimedia
  201. methods benefit from this improvement. The only module of RAR
  202. algorithm, which is not affected, is "Text compression" method.
  203. 2. Changes in ISO support:
  204. a) UDF support is upgraded to UDF 2.50 revision. It makes possible
  205. to unpack most of Blu-ray ISO files;
  206. b) when browsing UDF ISO file, UDF revision number is displayed
  207. after the "UDF" format name in WinRAR address bar
  208. and in archive information dialog;
  209. c) WinRAR sets the folder modification date when unpacking folders
  210. stored in UDF and ISO9660 files.
  211. 3. Changes in password dialog:
  212. a) WinRAR uses the same format of password dialog both when archiving
  213. and extracting, so "Show password" option is available also
  214. when extracting;
  215. b) "Organize passwords..." button in password dialog provides
  216. access to password organizer interface, where you can specify
  217. your frequently used passwords. You will be able to access these
  218. saved passwords using the drop down list or autocomplete feature
  219. in password dialog.
  220. It is important to know that saved passwords are not encrypted
  221. and anybody having access to your computer can view them.
  222. Use "Organize passwords" feature only if your computer is
  223. protected from unauthorized access;
  224. c) "Use for all archives" option is available in password dialog
  225. when unpacking several archives at once. You can utilize it
  226. to apply an entered password to all archives.
  227. If you use this option with an empty password, WinRAR will skip
  228. all encrypted archives;
  229. d) Unlike previous versions, the password from default compression
  230. profile is not used for extraction.
  231. If you wish to use the same password for all extracting archives,
  232. press "Organize passwords..." button in the password dialog
  233. and define a new password entry, specifying "*" file mask
  234. in "Select for archives" field.
  235. 4. In Windows 7 WinRAR will display the total operation progress
  236. also on WinRAR icon on Windows taskbar. You can disable it using
  237. "Taskbar progress bar" option on "General" page of WinRAR settings.
  238. 5. Numerous Unicode support improvements allow to process non-English
  239. file names more smoothly. These improvements include:
  240. a) better Unicode handling in WinRAR in "Rename", "Convert",
  241. "Find" and other commands, in folder tree panel, in password
  242. request dialog and in many other parts of WinRAR interface;
  243. b) correctly displayed Unicode names in WinRAR items in Explorer
  244. context menus;
  245. c) Unicode support in .lng files, making WinRAR localization
  246. possible for Unicode only languages.
  247. 6. Changes in -x<file> switch syntax. Now you can specify a wildcard
  248. exclusion mask for folders. Such mask must have the trailing '\'
  249. character, like -x*tmp*\ or -x*\temp\
  250. 7. New "Extract relative paths" option in "Advanced" part of extraction
  251. dialog. If you browse some archive subfolder in WinRAR shell
  252. and enable "Extract relative paths" option, the path part up to
  253. and including the current subfolder will be removed from extracted
  254. file paths.
  255. For example, if you are inside of "Backup\MyData" archive folder
  256. and extract "Images" folder, it will be extracted as "Images",
  257. not as "Backup\MyData\Images".
  258. This option is the new default extraction mode, but you can change
  259. the default back to WinRAR 3.x style. Just select "Extract full paths"
  260. and then press "Save settings" in "General" part of extraction dialog.
  261. 8. Windows 98, Windows Me and Windows NT are not supported by WinRAR
  262. and WinRAR self-extracting modules anymore. Minimum Windows version
  263. required for WinRAR 4.0 is Windows 2000.
  264. If you need to run WinRAR on older Windows, you can download
  265. previous WinRAR versions from ftp://ftp.rarlab.com/rar
  266. 9. If TAR, TAR.GZ or TAR.BZ2 archive contains symbolic or hard links
  267. and if destination file system is NTFS, WinRAR will create these
  268. links when unpacking such archive. WinRAR will create symbolic links
  269. as symbolic and hard links as hard in Windows Vista and newer
  270. and it will create all links as hard in older Windows.
  271. If destination file system is FAT32 or any other not supporting
  272. file links, WinRAR will skip links when unpacking TAR, TAR.GZ
  273. and TAR.BZ2 archives.
  274. 10. Recovery volume processing involves less disk seek operations
  275. resulting in higher performance.
  276. 11. You can select Windows 7 library in tree panel in extraction dialog
  277. and WinRAR will use its default save location as the destination path.
  278. 12. "Report" command allows to select HTML, Unicode text and usual text
  279. as output format for report file. Unlike previous WinRAR versions,
  280. now WinRAR preservers Unicode characters in reports when using HTML
  281. or Unicode text format. So non-English characters in file names
  282. will be displayed properly in such reports.
  283. 13. Message list in GUI SFX archives displays only operation status
  284. and error messages. It does not contain names of all extracted files
  285. anymore. This change improves the speed and reduces memory requirements
  286. for SFX archives containing a large number of files. Also it makes
  287. easier to locate error messages, because they are not hidden among
  288. extracted file names.
  289. 14. GUI SFX archives display "Extract" button instead of "Install"
  290. if no "Setup" or "Presetup" commands are present in the archive
  291. comment. If you prefer "Install" button, but do not need to
  292. execute any setup programs, you can add "Setup=<>" command.
  293. 15. WinRAR displays the current percent above the operation progress bar
  294. when repairing an archive containing the recovery record
  295. and when processing recovery volumes.
  296. 16. WinRAR limits the maximum possible volume size to 4 GB minus 1 byte
  297. when creating RAR volumes on a disk with FAT or FAT32 file system
  298. in volume size autodetecting mode. These file systems do not support
  299. 4 GB and larger files.
  300. 17. If "Wait if other WinRAR copies are active" option is enabled
  301. and WinRAR waits for another copy, you can press "Continue" button
  302. in command progress window to force WinRAR to stop waiting.
  303. So now "Continue" button allows to override the state of
  304. "Wait if other WinRAR copies are active" option for current operation.
  305. 18. WinRAR displays one password request instead of two, when saving
  306. an encrypted file back to RAR or ZIP archive after modifying it
  307. in some external editor. Previous WinRAR versions usually requested
  308. the password twice, both when extracting the original file
  309. and archiving its modified copy. Only RAR archives with encrypted
  310. file names were processed with the single password prompt.
  311. 19. New error code 10 ("no files") is added to list of error codes
  312. returned in command line mode by RAR and WinRAR. This new code
  313. can be returned by archive, extract, delete and repair commands.
  314. It means that RAR did not find any files matched the specified
  315. file or archive mask.
  316. 20. File name area in file overwrite dialog occupies several lines now.
  317. It makes possible to display much longer names.
  318. 21. Now switch -ep3 converts not only disk letters, but also UNC paths.
  319. So \\server\share will be converted to __server\share when archiving
  320. and restored to the original \\server\share when extracting with -ep3.
  321. 22. New "Background extraction" option in "Advanced" part of extraction
  322. dialog places WinRAR into background, when extracting files.
  323. You can save its default state with "Save settings" button in "General"
  324. part of extraction dialog, just like for other extraction options.
  325. "Background archiving" option from the default compression profile
  326. does not affect the extraction behavior anymore.
  327. 23. "Mode..." button in operation progress window is enabled also
  328. when extracting or testing archives. It provides access to
  329. "Command parameters" dialog, where you can set "Turn PC off when done"
  330. option for extraction and test operations.
  331. Previously this dialog was accessible only when archiving.
  332. 24. Bugs fixed:
  333. a) renaming a file in archive could also rename all other files
  334. with the same name in other folders of the same archive;
  335. b) previous versions displayed the wrong total packed size
  336. in "Info" command for multivolume CAB archives;
  337. c) in ZIP archives 'U' (update) and 'F' (fresh) commands could
  338. erroneously update even files not specified in the command line.
  339. It happened only for files in current folder which names matched
  340. files in ZIP archive. This bug was not present in usual 'A' (add)
  341. archiving mode.
  342. Version 3.93
  343. 1. Bugs fixed:
  344. a) in WinRAR 3.92 -xd:\path\folder switch could also exclude folders,
  345. which path does not match the path specified in the switch
  346. and only the folder name is the same as specified;
  347. b) switches -y -or did not work correctly together. Switch -or was
  348. ignored in presence of -y.
  349. Version 3.92
  350. 1. If you start WinRAR command from Explorer context menu in multiple
  351. monitor configuration, the command dialog will be displayed
  352. on the same monitor as context menu. In previous versions it was
  353. always displayed on primary monitor.
  354. 2. WinRAR "Compress and email..." context menu command adds the archive
  355. name to email subject. Previous versions left the subject blank.
  356. 3. In RAR 3.91 -x<mask> switch could also exclude folders from archiving
  357. even if mask contained wilcard characters and did not contain a path.
  358. For example, -x*. excluded all those folders, which do not have
  359. the extension in the name. Now -x switch uses RAR 3.80 approach
  360. for masks without path, excluding folders only if mask does not
  361. contain wildcards and matches the folder name exactly.
  362. 4. Bugs fixed:
  363. a) WinRAR 3.91 reported the incorrect "Unexpected end of archive"
  364. error, when opening an empty ZIP archive created with
  365. "New WinRAR ZIP archive" context menu command;
  366. b) if "Delete archive" option was enabled when unpacking several
  367. ZIP archives and if one of archives was damaged, WinRAR did not
  368. delete archives after the damaged one, even if they were unpacked
  369. successfully;
  370. c) if file matched two different masks in RarFiles.lst, WinRAR
  371. could select the last match. Normally, if neither of masks
  372. is a subset of another, the first match must be chosen.
  373. Version 3.91
  374. 1. This version can decompress 7-Zip archives created with
  375. LZMA2 algorithm.
  376. 2. Now a password is requested only once when unpacking 7z archives
  377. with encrypted file names from context menu. WinRAR 3.90 asked it
  378. twice.
  379. 3. This version can unpack tar.bz2 archives consisting of several
  380. smaller bz2 streams merged together. Previous versions unpacked
  381. only the first nested bz2 stream in such composite archive.
  382. 4. WinRAR displays CRC32 of files inside of usual .gz (not .tar.gz)
  383. archives. Previous versions left this field blank for GZIP files.
  384. 5. Bugs fixed:
  385. a) WinRAR 3.90 displayed "Save" button instead of "Open" or "OK"
  386. in "Find archive" dialog ("Open archive" command in "File" menu
  387. and "Browse..." command in archiving dialog);
  388. b) WinRAR could display incorrect file names when browsing malformed
  389. ZIP archives;
  390. c) WinRAR 3.90 failed to decompress LZH archives created with
  391. "-lh7-" algorithm;
  392. d) WinRAR 3.90 could fail to delete a part of files after archiving
  393. if delete to Recycle Bin was enabled. This bug was present
  394. when working in Windows XP, but not in Windows Vista and Windows 7;
  395. e) when unpacking ISO file using WinRAR "Extract files..." command
  396. in Explorer context menu, WinRAR could unpack same archived files
  397. twice during the same operation. It displayed the overwrite prompt
  398. when unpacking files for the second time;
  399. f) hexadecimal search in WinRAR 3.90 "Find" command and console RAR
  400. "ih" command failed to find matches if first byte in search string
  401. was greater than 127.
  402. Version 3.90
  403. 1. WinRAR version for Windows x64 is available. If you use
  404. Windows x64, it is strongly recommended to install 64 bit
  405. WinRAR version. It provides a higher performance and better
  406. shell integration than 32 bit version.
  407. 2. RAR compression speed is improved for multi-core
  408. and multi-CPU systems. This improvement is most noticeable
  409. in Windows Vista and Windows 7 operating systems.
  410. 3. "Remove duplicate folders from extraction path" option
  411. in "Settings/Compression" dialog is replaced by more universal
  412. "Remove redundant folders from extraction path" option.
  413. This option will eliminate redundant archive name based folders
  414. from extraction path if you unpack an archive with
  415. "Extract to DestName\" context menu command and if archive
  416. root folder contains only one folder and no files.
  417. 4. Changes in "Extraction path and options" dialog:
  418. a) "New folder" button creates a new subfolder in currently
  419. selected folder;
  420. b) F2 key renames a selected folder in the folders tree;
  421. c) F5 key updated the tree pane contents;
  422. d) Del key removes a selected folder in the folders tree.
  423. 5. You can enable "Show seconds" option in "Settings/File list"
  424. dialog if you wish to see seconds in file dates in file list
  425. in WinRAR shell.
  426. 6. "Where to check for SFX archives" options group
  427. in "Settings/Integration/Context menus items" dialog lets
  428. you to control processing of SFX archives in context menus.
  429. For example, if you frequently right click ".exe" files
  430. on slow network disks, you can turn off "Network disks" options
  431. to minimize the delay before displaying the context menu.
  432. 7. If you sort files by name in the file list in WinRAR shell,
  433. WinRAR will use the new logical file name sorting,
  434. same as in Windows Explorer, considering digits in file names
  435. by their numerical value. So files will be sorted as
  436. 1.txt, 2.txt, 10.txt instead of previous 1.txt, 10.txt, 2.txt.
  437. This new sort behavior is available in Windows XP Service Pack 2
  438. and newer.
  439. 8. Ctrl+W key combination can be used to close the main WinRAR window
  440. also as WinRAR viewer windows. "View as Windows text" shortcut
  441. in WinRAR viewer changed from Ctrl+W to Ctrl+I.
  442. 9. New command line switch -r- disables recursion completely.
  443. So 'rar a -r- arc dirname' command will add only the empty
  444. dirname folder and ignore its contents. By default, if dirname
  445. does not include wildcards, RAR adds its contents even if
  446. -r switch is not specified.
  447. 10. If used when extracting, the new command line switch -ai forces
  448. RAR to ignore file attributes. When using this switch,
  449. extracted files will always have attributes assigned by
  450. operating system to a newly created file by default.
  451. 11. If output file name is not specified in "cw" command, console RAR
  452. will send comment data to stdout.
  453. 12. When compressing stdin data with -si[name] switch, RAR sets
  454. modification time of archived entry to current system time.
  455. Previous RAR versions did not fill this field, resulting in
  456. meaningless modification time for stdin.
  457. 13. Message displayed when you place the mouse cursor on WinRAR
  458. tray icon includes the archive name now. Previously only
  459. time left and total percent were displayed for archiving operations.
  460. 14. New 'Shutdown' variable in 'Software\WinRAR\Policy' registry key
  461. allows to disable "Turn PC off when done" option for security reasons.
  462. Read "Configuration settings/Registry variables" for more details.
  463. 15. Better shell extension performance. Now WinRAR context menu will be
  464. more responsive when working with thousands of selected files.
  465. 16. Improved compatibility with high DPI Windows display mode.
  466. 17. Bugs fixed:
  467. a) WinRAR could fail to open tar or tar.gz archive if such archive
  468. contained a file larger than 8 GB;
  469. b) WinRAR context menu did not work properly in Windows 7 beta
  470. if icons in context menus were enabled and user clicked
  471. a file inside of Windows 7 Library folder;
  472. c) previous WinRAR versions failed to rename files having 5 or more
  473. continuous spaces in the name. WinRAR shell does not display
  474. such spaces for safety reasons, because they can hide an actual
  475. file extension. But this security measure prevented the rename
  476. command to work properly.
