  15. Goes down for some people?
  16. Just slows down until it drops below 100.
  17. Never seen it happen, so wondering what is the worse case scenario generally?
  18. (I ask because I'm trying to decide if need a 3rd account or if the worse case scenario is occasionally tolerable)

  25. Best practices is to never go above 80% as you need to leave room for the operating systems, cron jobs, backups, etc.
  26. Once things start to spike at 100% memory swap gets used which means things that are normally done very fast in RAM would then be done on disk which is extremely slow. If it is an intensive task it could cause your system to lockup or crash which could lead to data loss or corruption of your system.

  29. Ok, thank you. It has stayed under 50% consistently in the first 3 days of operation, and now I have added all sites that need to be on it. I have a couple of ideas to drop the memory usage a little more. Thank you for your answer. Are there any tools that will detect, for example, 90% usage, and maybe temporarily suspend some services to knock it back down automatically (ex. take a site offline for a few minutes automatically).?
  30. The best solution is to increase your RAM, if you are reaching up there you have a physical memory problem that can only be fixed by increasing RAM. Randomly trying to suspend things will only cause stability and reliability issues if it is for a live site. If it is a backup you would need something that can notify you of the stopped backup that can reschedule it or similar non critical background tasks in the future. You could set something up with RabbitMQ, some logic and some security testing and you should be fine.
  31. It's not a good idea to take a live site offline for a few minutes or suspend services on the server which will surely affect live sites performance.
  32. Instead of doing these things you should monitor your server with the help of any Linux Server Monitoring Tool such as Zabbix which will notify you for server performance issues as well as you can add sites to monitor their performance. Once you receive the notification regarding disk space or any service down on a server you can take required action on it and avoid future issues with the server.

  39. If you have SWAP set up and your RAM usage hits 100%, the system will try to use disk space as RAM (SWAP). This will slow down the system quite significantly because disk performance is much slower than RAM performance. So things might not crash right away in this scenario, but it will be very hard to work with the server due to a portion of what would be on the RAM having to reside on the disk.
  40. If you don't have SWAP, things will start crashing because each and every software you run, OS included, uses RAM for its operation.
