  1. Who am I? Just some schmo, but I’ve written several articles on Bitcoin [see below], created a popular animation about it, am married to a BitPay employee, and my brother is the Operations Lead for OpenBazaar. So, I’ve been steeped in the Bitcoin world for a few years now.
  2. I’ve had several people ask me about Bitcoin, and I’ve found that there doesn’t seem to be a great introductory resource to share with the average Joe. Everything seems to be really technical, really biased, or poorly worded.
  3. So, I’ve decided to create a short, introductory book entitled, “What’s the Big Deal About Bitcoin?”
  4. And believe it or not, it’s going to answer the average Joe’s question, “What’s the big deal about Bitcoin?”
  5. Plenty of people have heard about the technology, but they don’t know what all the fuss is about, and they are unaware of the future possibilities. So, I want to provide a non-technical, conceptual explanation – not a “how-to” book, but rather a “what-is” book.
  6. I am trying to finish this project by the end of the year. For those that are interested, the book will cover four sections:
  7. I. What is Bitcoin? (simple explanation of what it is)
  8. II. What’s the Big Deal? (examples of its potential)
  9. III. Common Objections (clarifying and resolving the most common objections)
  10. IV. Real Challenges (what I see as legitimate criticisms and questions about Bitcoin)
  11. Obviously, it takes time to create such a book. Fortunately, my wife has a full-time job to support the majority of our expenses. Unfortunately, we still expect our savings to be diminished. So, I am trying to raise around 2BTC to break even over the next two months finishing this book.
  12. Even if I don’t raise 2BTC, I still intend to publish the book. We’d just eat a bit into our savings.
  13. If you’d like to support the project, I've posted my BTC address at: http://steve-patterson.com/new-bitcoin-book/
  14. (Of course, if I had just taken my wife’s advice and bought Bitcoin with it was $10/BTC, I wouldn’t need to ask for money. But that didn’t happen.)
  15. Also, if anyone wants to share tips on self-publishing or writing books, please do share. This is my first book, so I have a lot to discover.
  16. Thank you, Bitcoiners.
