Seriously! I taught my daughter self-defense techniques and acted out scenarios and showed her the proper way to deal with situations. I didn’t want her to be terrified, I wanted her to feel empowered and that she had it in herself to get away from a situation by being alert/aware of her surroundings at all times and to run the hell as fast as she could if she felt ANY fear (learning to NOT ignore our instincts as women and girls is something that is not taught enough imho). 9 times out of 10 our instincts are correct. Fear is a good thing. Fear is part of our survival mechanism. If it comes down to fight or flight, I say flight first and fight if you have no other choice and fight with all your might and don’t be afraid to KILL.

Aunt P -
I agree, the risk is there that something truly bad could happen, and to that end…better safe than sorry. At the same time I’ve watched my mother coddle my sister to a degree that elicits slight disgust in myself. There are times to experiment, try different things, branch out, and grow.
As for men nowadays, especially the younger ones…I dunno, probably overly respectful of women, treating them too well as opposed to being equals. I guess it ultimately depends on their own situation – and its hard to judge someone who’s 18-21 since they’re so wet behind the ears in the first place.
