A magnitude 6.9 earthquake struck West Java, Central Java and Yogyakarta on Friday, December 15,
BMKG issued a Tsunami early warning related to the earthquake.
The epicenter of the quake was at 7.75 LS and 108.11 BT or 11 km southwest of Tasikmalaya Regency. The epicenter was 107 km deep.
One second earlier, an earthquake of magnitude 7.3 on the Richter scale also occurred near the site precisely at 43 km southwest of Tasikmalaya regency, 66 km southeast of Garut, and 77 km southwest of Pangandaran. The point of the earthquake was at a depth of 105 km.
Earthquake vibrations are felt in some areas in West Java such as Bandung, Bogor, Cimahi, Cianjur, and Tasikmalaya.
A few minutes earlier, the earthquake also shook, the quake also shook the Sukabumi area. BMKG analysis results show that the earthquake occurred at 23:04 pm with the power of 4.5 on the Richter scale 7.29 LS and 106.69 BT, exactly at a distance of 48 km southwest of Sukabumi at a depth of 50 km.
Vibration is felt in the area of Jampang and Surade. Judging from the depth of his hypocenter, it appears that this quake is an earthquake in shallow depths due to Indo-Australian plate subduction activity that slips under the Eurasian Plate resulting in rock deformation.
