The company has global headquarters in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, alongside a presence in Singapore. It was established in 2015 and combines “world-leading design and Asia Pacific insight” with a focus on cost-efficient and scalable hyperscale facilities. The financing it has received will be used spur further expansion into APAC with the building of a new hyperscale data center in Singapore.
AirTrunk’s Singapore data center will be the largest hyperscale facility in the island nation and offer 60 MW of IT load. It is a response to increased demand for AirTrunk’s services both within the APAC region and at its facilities in Sydney and Melbourne, Australia. The company will target enterprise customers interested in transitioning to the hyperscale cloud. News of the financing was announced by the company’s CEO Robin Khuda.
Taking the form of debt financing, three financial institutions - Natixis, Goldman Sachs and Deutsche Bank - were involved in the investment. Additional equity capital was provided by Mr. Khuda, shareholders, Goldman Sachs, and TPG Sixth Street Partners (TSSP). News of the investment comes on the heels of the company winning SNG$621 million ($458 million) in August 2018.
This will be AirTrunk’s first Singapore data center and it will come online halfway through next year. The center will benefit from a “sustainable digital ecosystem” underpinned by an “industry-low” power usage effectiveness (PUE) rating. The center will also aim for BCA Green Mark Platinum certification. “The rapid growth of cloud and evolving needs of enterprises are driving demand for hyperscale capacity in the region,” explained AirTrunk’s Chief Commercial Officer and Executive Director Michael Juniper in a press release. “Singapore is a strategic data center hub due to its economic and political stability and rich connectivity to Asia, the USA, and Europe.”
