What "spiritual assistance" were they seeking? Isn't the man's evil deed staring them on the face; the pregnant lady that she dumped? What became of the child; aborted? Even if not, he did not allow an innocent child to have a home and he wants to have one? Has he repented and appeased that lady (perhaps and child) for the evil he did to them?
The issue is that people hardly tie what is happening to them with what they have done because they do not believe in God's word; a person reaps what he/she sows.
