Week 7 of the 2017 regular season is just about coming to a close with the Monday Night game remaining. Most fantasy football leagues will run their waiver wires late Tuesday or early Wednesday, but we are here to help you get a jump on the best options to consider.
We will be ranking the top five players likely to be available in your league at each of the four major positions. Some weeks there might not be five good options available, but we’ll scour for the best we can find. Additionally, throughout the week, we will update each of these articles as ownership percentages change and news arrives. The following ownership percentages come via CBS Sportsline entering Week 7.
It’s almost hard to remember that Bortles was practically out of a job at the end of the preseason. Yet, here we are, looking at a 4-3 Jaguars team heading into its bye in a Good Place about winning the AFC South. And though Leonard Fournette and a stingy secondary are the main reasons, Bortles is getting it done almost every week. Before Sunday’s rout of the Colts, Bortles had thrown the ball at least 30 times in four of five games and he’s scored double-digit fantasy points every week but one — and that was the week the Jags pick-sixed the Steelers twice. With bye weeks still in full effect in Weeks 9-11, Bortles is a totally legit fill-in. Yes, Blake Bortles.
We list the man here every week, and no one listens. What does McCown need to do to convince the fantasy world that he can help? McCown’s third straight multi-touchdown game on Sunday was his best of the season — three passing and one rushing. The Jets were tough-luck losers, but they are fighting each week and McCown is giving them a chance to win. He can give you a chance, too, if you let him.
It was one ugly mess on Sunday in Santa Clara, but don’t let one really bad game dissuade you. Beathard has talent and he has weapons to utilize when the matchup is right. His next three games are made for matchup heaven: At Philadelphia and at home for the Cardinals and Giants. Those three are all in the bottom third of the league in allowing quarterback points. As long as Beathard doesn’t go gun-shy after getting pummeled on Sunday, he’s got a chance for some nice bye-week fill-in results.
Rejoice, Miami! Jay Cutler won’t be hurting you for at least a few weeks. Old friend Matt Moore is back under center and he probably had Dolphins fans wondering why he wasn’t the replacement for Ryan Tannehill in the first place. Moore completed 13 of 21 passes for 188 yards and two touchdowns. After a tough matchup against Baltimore next week, the Dolphins face a slew of shaky pass defenses through Week 15. If DeVante Parker returns soon, Moore has a chance to be the sleeper QB of the stretch run.
Stanton was named the starter in place of Carson Palmer, who is out for several weeks and likely the season. Stanton has never shown the ability to be a starting fantasy quarterback, but we know how the Cardinals are a pass-first offense, so the volume should be there. Maybe Stanton finally reaches whatever potential he’s always possessed. He’s a stash-and-hope option, with emphasis on hope.
