  1. Politicians and experts believe that the shortage will last next year and that excess consumption is among the causes of the problem
  2. Rolls of toilet paper, sports shoes, toys and even children's costumes for the Halloween party are the object of desire in the United States these days because of the shortage crisis that is sweeping the world and that has seized activity in the consumer mecca. On the eve of the most intense commercial season of the year, between Thanksgiving and Christmas, the strangulation of the supply chain accumulates delays and dysfunctions, the first as a result of the stoppage of the pandemic; the others, due to systemic weaknesses, but also temporary, such as the lack of manpower.
  3. Once the goods have been unloaded in the ports, there is a lack of storage places and drivers to transport them by road, so as not to have to depend on the poor condition of many railways. It is, in short, the congestion of a stagnant system that President Joe Biden intends to solve, among other measures, with his ambitious infrastructure plan, which is arduously processed in Congress.
  4. This accumulation of circumstances has turned this bottleneck into a real oppression for the US economy, as consumer fever is added after a year and a half of containment and an increase in prices fueled in turn by scarcity: the price of meat it had risen 13% through September; that of gasoline, 42%.
