A great place to people watch and handy for buses, trams and the metro with The National Theatre and its metro station being just a couple of hundred metres from the Kings Palace. It is expensive to dine in on this main street as you might expect but just walk down a couple of side streets and you can buy more inexpensive food to eat in or take out. The architecture of the many buildings is an eclectic mix of old and new. Thoroughly enjoyable and free too mooch or rest in the gardens. A pleasant walk from near central station to the palace. As warm weather and tourist season settles in it gets extremely busy and crowded. Lots of shopping and cafe options along here, but prices were higher than if you took time to move away a block or two away from the premium location. However, is definitely worth a walk along to experience the hustle of central Oslo. All the tourists in the city come packed to this one street, which connects the train station and the Royal Palace. Because of that, it's filled with overpriced chain restaurants and many beggars hoping for money. If you just happen to be walking to the Royal Palace you should walk down the street, but if you're actually looking for a Norwegian experience look elsewhere.
