  1. Git hub login

  3. Click the clone button to bring up a dialog that shows all the repositories you have access to. I don't want it doing that. But you can use an application access token and use git's credential helper to cache that for you.
  4. Testing after every step and trying to close down and open the app and after step 3 it started working. I'm still a little perplexed by what all these steps are doing.
  5. This field is only available if Password is selected as authentication method above. I've tried personal access tokens. I don't understand why this is happening. This is how I prefer it, since I like being forced to type my github password before sharing with the world. I am not sure if all steps were required but would recommend doing them all anyway as past times I've had this issue step 1 or 2 resolved it. I'm still a little perplexed by what all these steps are doing. I'm blocked now and unable to do work until I get this fixed. Git uses a username to associate commits with an identity. The Git username is not the same as your GitHub username. If you run the app after doing this and attempt to star a repository, any requests will return a 401 Unauthorized Error. Save token This option is only available if Token is selected as authentication method.
  6. Can't login to GitHub from SourceTree anymore - This field is only available if Password is selected as authentication method above. The new name you set will be visible in any future commits you push to GitHub from the command line.
  7. I am working with a repo on GitHub and everytime I try to push something, it asks for my GitHub username and password. I don't want it doing that. I tried the instructions onnamely set up the Git variables github. I don't understand why this is happening. Had a similar problem today: I messed things up in my working copy, so I decided to rename the directory git hub login clone my project again from github. That was because today I used the https protocol to clone the project. To check what protocol you're using just run git config -l and look at the line starting with 'remote. To switch protocols: git config remote. The username will be yours if you own the repository, or the repository owner's username otherwise. I git hub login this setup to enter my password only once, when I start my working day. Then the next time you enter your name and password it will remember them for you. This is how I prefer it, since I like being forced to type my github password before sharing with the world. Things are a little different if you're using 2-factor auth as I am. Since I didn't find a good answer elsewhere, I'll stick one here so that maybe I can find it later. But you can use an application access token and use git's credential helper to cache that for you. Then leave the password blank. How to use You don't. It works when credentials are needed.
