The price of electricity in the wholesale market falls again today for the second day in a row, specifically by 7.6%, reaching 209.63 euros per megawatt hour (MWh). However, this Sunday will be the most expensive in history.
In the historical series, today's price is the ninth highest since there are records, despite being 27% below the record of 288.53 euros / MWh registered on October 7. Wholesale market prices have a direct impact on the regulated tariff or PVPC, which is served by almost 11 million consumers in Spain, and serves as a reference for the other 17 million who contract their supply on the free market.
The most expensive hours
The maximum price for today will be registered between 9:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. with 270 euros / MWh, while the minimum will be 183.84 euros / MWh between 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. The price escalation that affects a large part of Europe is due, among other factors, to the rising cost of gas in international markets, which is used in combined cycle plants and which sets the market price in most hours, and the increase in the price of carbon dioxide (CO2) emission rights.
