  15. also, because all major domains are .COM like facebook, google, and other stuff, people uncontrollably like .com domains more than other domains

  18. ps this is rly gut domain
  19. Make sure you dont target a reputed .com else you may face legal charges.
  20. Good Luck
  21. its not registered.
  22. Well, the difference between .com/.net/.org isn't as specific as you have suggested, but I get your wavelength.
  23. What is the purpose of your domain name? A startup? Or for SEO?
  24. “Every once in awhile, try to do something nice for somebody you don't know, even if it's just leaving an opening in traffic for them to merge into. Small things like that give people hope that we're not all assholes.” ―Joshua Neik
  25. its not registered.
  26. Go for it, just make sure it's no infringing on a trademarked brand name.

  28. Yes, this is my go-to Keyword Tool, you should be using this too! Rank easier with this.
  29. Even if it’s not a trademarked brand, what’s the point of targeting a .net for an existing .com domain?
  30. There’s no practical difference between your new .net and picking up another .com
  31. If you’re trying to build out a brand, most users will get confused since people remember brand but they’ll just assume a .com extension.

  35. cuz 4k USD for com dude
  36. If you have the budget I'd go for the .COM but negotiate the price. That is a fairly low price and i'm sure they're willing to bring it down. If not, just go for the .NET domain.
  37. saugeil.net

  45. Are you trying to find an exact / partial match? In that case get creative - then you can save $3989.01 :)
  46. If you’re trying to piggyback an existing brand - well you’re gonna find yourself in hot water.
  47. nono you dont understand. some domains are automatically marked as premium and they cost 4k usd. but only.com costs. its not taken its just expensive. other extensions have normal prices for this domain
  48. Well I’m that case a .net is fine - there’s no huge difference for SEO purposes.
  49. The above people mentioned good advice and I'd follow them. I had the same decision as you about a year ago when I started my brick and mortar business. The .com extension was $2.5k and the .net was $14.99. We went with the $14.99 and it has worked out well for us. We don't have any trademark concerns our have to compete for the same keywords being used by other extensions. We really thought about this and here are the following reasons why we that since we are in a mobile first internet and most searches are for the keywords of the brand and do not include the extension. Also like others have stated it depends on your audience, I am not sure if this is just me but I feel like if I type in the website extension and it doesn't take me to the correct website I am looking for, my default second try is to search the keywords in a search engine and let google match results that are similar to my query. That is why being unique domain is so important. Also if extensions were important I feel like search engines would require you to add the extension in the search bar like old times.
  50. what about .dev domain? ive got another domain idea it fits very well to .dev extension

  53. I agree with the above.
  54. In terms of brandability, memorability, user trustworthiness, and resale value, .com always comes out on top.
  55. Web browsers default to .com in absence of an extension, and even most mobile keyboards now have a ".com" key.
  56. $4K really isn't that much money for a good .com domain name that you plan on developing into your brand, but if it is outside your budget, I would rather go with a second-choice, brandable .com as opposed to a hand-regged .net that is, in essence, just building a demographic for the already-registered .com domain.

  58. nono you dont understand. some domains are automatically marked as premium
  59. Actually, this is incorrect. A .com domain that you're seeing as premium *is* already registered by a third-party, who is enlisting the services of the whois registry or the domain marketplace to act as broker for them.
  60. A lot of big players in the domain space do this, e.g. HugeDomains. They buy up massive quantities of expiring domains and then list them with an agent, which will display to you as a premium.
  61. It is the registrar (within the policy of ICANN) who sets the price for domain registrations, but all domains for a specific extension will be set at the same price if they are available to be hand-regged.
  62. The only other connotation of "premium" domains would apply to the limited period for a select group of potential domain owners to register a new ccTLD in the pre-sale period before opening the extension to the general public, but this would never apply to .com, .net, or to any of the other extensions which are well-known today.

  71. $4k is really a lot if you are just starting and you can easily use this money for something else to boost your site. Its an easy decision to go with .net, provided its not something that is name of some popular brand or something similar.
