  3. If you think you found a bug, please report it at Other Google related subreddits Questions? This site is run by , a network performance company. To help make life easier, the Wi-Fi Alliance offers an easier method called Wi-Fi Protected Setup. Configuring your router to set limitations on how connected devices are allowed to access the Internet is a useful security precaution for your network.
  4. Compare the results to the speed you see on SpeedTest. If you have any questions, post a comment. Power line adapters basically turn the electrical wiring of your home into cables for a computer network.
  5. Consider donating to the Electronic Frontier Foundation! It can't penetrate walls very well, either. We are not a review site. It may seem dumb, but I can't begin to count the number of times a major network problem just turned out to be an unplugged network cord. From the side of the access point or router, the owner can set the password or encryption key that clients can use to connect to the Wi-Fi network. You may want to block someone's entire computer from accessing the Internet, or you may want to temporarily disable your own access so that you can get work done without being distracted. Plugging your computer into another jack will disable that jack as well. Please be as specific as possible. First, let's see if you're getting the bandwidth you're paying for. Don't worry, a computer is just a machine and it can be fixed just like any other machine.
  6. Why did I get a notification saying internet is being - This site is run by , a network performance company. Admin is the absolute most common username on routers and changing it makes it much harder for someone to gain access to your router.
  7. As an aside regarding the message itself, if it is in fact bona fide, I feel it necessary to point out the Internet is not particular random. In other words, of course it is being controlled. It is being controlled on a very elementary level if you consider the electrical engineering going in to equipment that makes it possible. It is being controlled on a higher level by all the programming that gone in to the previously mentioned equipment. It is controlled still at an even higher level by the users of those programs. At an even higher level, people control governments which control laws which other people follow which control the internet. I would posit the internet is being controlled at all times. This happened to me just now. The only extensions I have installed are AdBlock and FoxyProxy, and from the few accounts of this message occurring it sounds like it's happening to people using proxy extensions. I'm not sure if this is just Chrome's new and intensely disconcerting way of telling you you're using a proxy but they could your internet connection is being controlled do to rewrite it to something a little less paranoia-inducing. Here I mean to differentiate between the message appeared while I was using chrome, and the message is an internal chrome one indicating the chrome team is trying to tell us something presumably that an app like foxyproxy or adp is enabled, perhaps enabled in incognito mode. I would have thought if it were officially google chrome, it would have been a full page, maybe with an apple-esque unhappy face, perhaps an error code. The way it was presented and disappeared, makes me think it was either not an official google chrome message, but a fake phishing one, or some vestigial code stub we've all triggered with a common element in our apps. My situation was exactly the same as BatuX's. I was uneasy, then I read this forum, and, especially that last post with the screenshot of the entire message, has me freaked out. I usually don't get creeped out, but now I'm jumpy and terrified. Why the heck would whoever designed the message word it so terrifyingly. Maybe marathoning American Horror Story wasn't such a good idea. Please don't take that as a sign that this topic is closed to discussion. Rather, it's the best way for this forum system to display an important update at the beginning of a thread, and I want to help ensure that those new to the discussion see the latest update from me. However, I have Hola too, your internet connection is being controlled that might be the cause. But Hola is an extension that makes websites believe that you're in another country so you can use the website. Don't know how it works, but it's extremely useful, and it's a popular extension that has proven itself to be safe. I guess that's why it said my Internet was being controlled. Because they ''control'' it in a way by changing your location. I disconnected from my network and shut my computer off. I disabled it and went on with my browsing. I hope this helps in some way. I'm not very computer savvy so I don't really know what I'm talking about. I do think the cause at least for me is the Hola extension I have. Made sense because Hola changes proxy settings to other countries to allow blocked content to be seen.
