  1. I. EXORDIUM:
  2. Are those called in the Old Testament really saved?
  3. II. AUDIENCE PROFILE:
  4. Believers
  5. III. OBJECTIVES:
  6. To show that CHRIST is the Mediator of the New Covenant and CHRIST's death saved even those called out people in the Old Testament.
  7. IV. TEXT:
  8. Hebrews 9:15 (Amplified Bible)
  9. 9:15 [Christ, the Messiah] is therefore the Negotiator and Mediator of an [entirely] new agreement (testament, covenant), so that those who are called and offered it may receive the fulfilment of the promised everlasting inheritance—since a death has taken place which rescues and delivers and redeems them from the transgressions committed under the [old] first agreement.
  10. V. THESIS:
  11. Thank You very much LORD JESUS for You are the Mediator of the New Covenant and by Your death You saved both us and the Old testament called ones.
  12. VI. TITLE:
  13. CHRIST Mediator of a new covenant
  14. VII. EXPLICATION:
  15. A. Date of writing: Before AD. 70
  16. B. Style of writing: Best Greek style
  17. C. Authorship: Not specific, but generally attributed to Apostle Paul. Can be also ascribed to Barnabas, Luke, Apollos
  18. D. Audience: Hebrew Christians
  19. E. Theme: Christ is superior to the prophets; Christ is superior to angels—J. Vernon McGee's Thru The Bible
  20. F. Purpose: The chief doctrinal purpose of the writer was to show the transcendent glory of the Christian dispensation, as compared with that of the Old Testament.Thompson Chain - Bible Book Outlines
  21. VIII. MAIN BODY:
  22. A. CHRIST is the Mediator of the New Covenant
  23. 1. Those who are called and offered in the Old Covenant may receive the fulfilment of the promised everlasting inheritance
  24. "[Christ, the Messiah] is therefore the Negotiator and Mediator of an [entirely] new agreement (testament, covenant), so that those who are called and offered it may receive the fulfilment of the promised everlasting inheritance"
  25. Hebrews 7:22 (Amplified Bible)
  26. 7:22 In keeping with [the oath’s greater strength and force], Jesus has become the Guarantee of a better (stronger) agreement [a more excellent and more advantageous covenant].
  27. Hebrews 8:6 (Amplified Bible)
  28. 8:6 But as it now is, He [Christ] has acquired a [priestly] ministry which is as much superior and more excellent [than the old] as the covenant (the agreement) of which He is the Mediator (the Arbiter, Agent) is superior and more excellent, [because] it is enacted and rests upon more important (sublimer, higher, and nobler) promises.
  29. Hebrews 12:24 (Amplified Bible)
  30. 12:24 And to Jesus, the Mediator (Go-between, Agent) of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood which speaks [of mercy], a better and nobler and more gracious message than the blood of Abel [which cried out for vengeance].
  31. 1 Timothy 2:5 (Amplified Bible)
  32. 2:5 For there [is only] one God, and [only] one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus,
  33. The word mediator is "mesites" in Greek, meaning
  34. 1. "a go between"
  35. 2. one who intervenes between two, either in order to make or restore peace and friendship, or form a compact, or for ratifying a covenant
  36. 3. a medium of communication, arbitrator
  37. CHRIST, the Messiah are all of these and even more, because He is both GOD and man, He has both the element of both parties necessary so that both parties can understand and relate to Him. He is more than qualified to be an arbitrator as well since He's GOD-Man.
  38. Illustration: Years later our president sent an arbitrator to the muslim areas, but the arbitrator was not understood since he is tagalog but not a muslim, he lacks the necessary requirement to be an arbitrator. But CHRIST, the Messiah, literally became man so He can go between us. GOD looks to Him whenever we sin and say we are blameless, and we humans look to JESUS, the Author and Finisher of our faith.
  39. B. CHRIST's death rescued, delivered and redeemed those of the old covenant from sins committed under the old covenant
  40. "since a death has taken place which rescues and delivers and redeems them from the transgressions committed under the [old] first agreement"
  41. Hebrews 11:40 (Amplified Bible)
  42. 11:40 Because God had us in mind and had something better and greater in view for us, so that they [these heroes and heroines of faith] should not come to perfection apart from us [before we could join them].
  43. Romans 3:24-26 (Amplified Bible)
  44. 3:24 [All] are justified and made upright and in right standing with God, freely and gratuitously by His grace (His unmerited favor and mercy), through the redemption which is [provided] in Christ Jesus,
  45. 3:25 Whom God put forward [before the eyes of all] as a mercy seat and propitiation by His blood [the cleansing and life-giving sacrifice of atonement and reconciliation, to be received] through faith. This was to show God’s righteousness, because in His divine forbearance He had passed over and ignored former sins without punishment.
  46. 3:26 It was to demonstrate and prove at the present time (in the now season) that He Himself is righteous and that He justifies and accepts as righteous him who has [true] faith in Jesus.
  47. Ephesians 1:7 (Amplified Bible)
  48. 1:7 In Him we have redemption (deliverance and salvation) through His blood, the remission (forgiveness) of our offenses (shortcomings and trespasses), in accordance with the riches and the generosity of His gracious favor,
  49. Romans 5:10 (Amplified Bible)
  50. 5:10 For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, it is much more [certain], now that we are reconciled, that we shall be saved (daily delivered from sin’s dominion) through His [resurrection] life.
  51. Both parties: GOD and man's party required that the Mediator dies, since GOD requires death as wages of sin, and man in his guilt needed to die to pay for his sins, then CHRIST did for both parties what they can't do for each other. Without CHRIST, we could be all dead by now, since we all have sinned, and GOD can't tolerate sin because of His Holiness, CHRIST accomplished and satisfied both partie's requirements and to add to it, CHRIST even resurrected from death and now seated at the right hand of GOD.
  52. IX. CONCLUSION:
  53. Thank You very much LORD JESUS for You are the Mediator of the New Covenant and by your death you saved both us and the Old testament called ones.
