In a shocking case from Telangana's Siddipet, an orphanage operator was found sexually harassing the children in his orphan home. The discovery was made on Tuesday after several girls from the orphanage thrashed the operator, Prabhakar, following an incident of molestation.
Allegations soon emerged that such incidents of harassment had been common for the past year year at the orphan home where Prabhakar and his brother used to target girls, often when the two were drunk.
On Tuesday, Prabhakar allegedly harassed yet another girl at the orphanage, following which the children at the home beat him up. The children were later joined by locals from the area who too thrashed Prabhakar mercilessly.
Following the incident, a Integrated Child Development Services officer and the local District Welfare Officer visited the orphanage, which is called Prema Nilayam. The two officials spoke to the students and the ICDS officer then filed a police complaint.
Based on the complaint, the police arrested Prabhakar and reigstered a case under Indian Penal Code section 354A (sexual harassment) of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act's section 12 (sexual harassment of a child).
The orphanage is located in Siddipet's KCR Nagar and used to be home to around 30 minor boys and girls. The children have now been moved to other homes in Siddipet and Sangareddy.
