is season hasn’t been the best of times for the Blackhawks, but Friday was headed for a new low.
They were at home facing the Sabres, who had the fewest points in the league entering the night. It should have been an easy opportunity for two points, especially after the Hawks lost their last five games.
It wasn’t shaping up that way. Despite a strong effort, the Hawks found themselves down a goal and headed to the penalty kill with 4 minutes, 35 seconds remaining in the third period after a bad interference penalty on Brent Seabrook.
But unlike a lot of close losses this season, the Hawks found a way. They tied the game on a superb penalty kill shift and defenseman Gustav Forsling, who played perhaps his best game in a Hawks uniform, scored the winning goal with 4.9 seconds remaining in overtime to give the Hawks a 3-2 win in Corey Crawford’s return to the ice after a three-game absence.
