  1. Real Madrid haven't exactly set the best example when it comes to retaining the La Liga title.
  2. The new season may only be two months old but Los Blancos are already a sizeable eight points behind Barcelona and four short of an unbeaten Valencia side.
  3. And while poor results have already been rife this season, defeat away to thirteenth placed Girona at the weekend was the worst of the lot.
  4. When Isco found the net in the 12th minute, it looked to have initiated a routine away performance for Real who edged their way to half-time at 1-0.
  5. Whatever Pablo Machín said at half-time in the dressing rooms certainly paid off, though.
  6. Girona emerged from the break with the bit between their teeth with ex-Middlesbrough man Christian Stuani levelling the scores before midfielder Portu back-heeled a winner past Kiko Casilla.
  7. The scorer of the winning goal then hit the woodwork, along with Pablo Maffeo, in a conclusion that could have spelt even greater humiliation for the visitors.
  8. Cristiano Ronaldo typified the disappointing nature of the performance, too, with a showing that the Mirror considered worthy of a 4/10 and not deserving of just a second La Liga goal.
  9. All in all, a pretty bad day at the office, then.

  11. It's not difficult to imagine Zinedine Zidane being somewhat infuriated in the aftermath and although he often cuts a calm figure on the touchline, his playing career was spotted with losses of temper.
  12. From Sergio Ramos has revealed, however, the Frenchman kept his icy composure in the team bus at the very least.
  13. Spanish TV cameras picked up images of the Real boss looking at clips from the game on his phone as the coach pulled away from the Estadi Montilivi with Ramos stepping in to explain.
  14. "We do not ignore the situation in Girona but it is true that it was a bittersweet feeling because we can not leave more points," Ramos declared that after the defeat.
  15. "On the bus we are going to his world, making self-criticism with his films."
  16. He explained "Zidane is watching the game," and made it clear that "the usual thing in this team is to analyze everything the next day."
  17. In other words, Zizou wasn't prepared to hang around after seeing his team perform so poorly with the next day proving far too distant.

  19. It's over to the 12-time Champions League winners to bail out their manager who's under more pressure than ever at the Bernabeu.
