  3. GitHub will retain its developer-first ethos and will operate independently to provide an open platform for all developers in all industries. The first thing that I was surprised by was that Microsoft has bean negotiations with Github for quite some time. Developers will continue to be able to use the programming languages, tools and operating systems of their choice for their projects — and will still be able to deploy their code to any operating system, any cloud and any device. The deal is expected to pass regulatory review and close by the end of 2018.
  4. Beyond that, expect a softly-softly approach to introducing anything new that may scare off developers and projects. GitHub is home for modern developers and the world's most popular destination for open source projects and software innovation. Maybe they will even offer free credits for new signup-ees. A coincidence, perhaps, but one that ensures Microsoft steals at least a few column inches from its long-standing rival.
  5. In just 2018 alone, the stock was up about 18%. Now we know for sure. Eastern to discuss this transaction. We make it easier for developers to be developers: to work together, to solve challenging problems, to create the world's most important technologies. We recognize the community responsibility we take on with this agreement and will do our best work to empower every developer to build, innovate and solve microsoft acquire github world's most pressing challenges. Microsoft is focused on selling proprietary software, whereas GitHub has always been a friend of open source, offering free microsoft acquire github to such projects. Activity overnight reflected this concern is real, with GitHub alternative GitLab enjoying a is project migrations from GitHub. Developers can relax a little, though. The future of software development is bright, and I'm thrilled to be joining forces with Microsoft to help make it a reality. Their focus on developers lines up perfectly with our own, and their scale, tools and global cloud will play a huge role in making GitHub even more valuable for developers everywhere. After that, I expect the first thing to happen behind the scenes is GitHub becoming a service hosted on Microsoft's cloud computing infrastructure. Beyond that, expect a softly-softly approach to introducing anything new that may scare off developers and projects.
