The iPad Mini takes the power of a regular iPad - the A5 chip, a 10 hour battery life and great cameras front and back - and fits them into a much more compact form which will easily fit into the smallest bag or even a big pocket (it's about as thin as a pencil). Lots of apps are included straight out of the box - Safari, Mail, Maps, Siri etc - and there are over 275,000 more to choose from in the App Store.
The iPad Mini features a main iSight 5 megapixel camera with 1080p HD video recording and a secondary 1.2 megapixel HD FaceTime camera. The iSight camera boasts auto-focus, face detection and a 5 element lens, plus useful features such as tap to focus or control exposure on both still and video.
The screen on the Mini is 7.9 inches across against the 9.7 inches of the iPad screen but uses the same resolution so you can expect the same rich quality and vivid detail as well as compatibility of apps between the two devices.
On the subject of compatibility be aware that the 4G version of the iPad Mini uses a Nano SIM and is not compatible with the Micro SIM used in a regular iPad. Wi-Fi connectivity on all versions is 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi as well as Bluetooth 4.0. The Mini is available with Wi-Fi only or Wi-Fi and 4G, each with three sizes of memory - 16GB, 32GB and 64GB. All six versions are available in either black and slate or white and silver.
