Once upon a time, there was a man walking along a beach littered with thousands of starfish that had been washed up on shore. A little boy was picking up the starfish and tossing them back into the ocean. The man asked the boy what he was doing and the boy replied that he was trying to save the starfish from dying. The man pointed out that there were too many for him to save and that it wouldn't make a difference. The boy picked up another starfish and tossed it back into the ocean, saying, "It made a difference to that one."
