This is the case of those that are dedicated to making traditional Christmas baskets, which also attribute uncertainty to a possible shortage of some products and the increase in cost of others.
“It is true that the situation is changing, but the pandemic has made us work with more time margin. In this way we can adapt to any situation ”, points out José Antonio Ros, general director of the El Portal Alimentación group. "Last year, due to the uncertainty, all orders were concentrated in the month of December and the campaign was better than we expected," says Ros. "On this occasion, the orders already started at the end of October and we were already prepared for it", assures the general director of El Portal.
Despite not having, "for now", any problem in terms of the lack of supply of products, what they have noticed from the sector is the increase in consumption by customers. "Due to this increase, depending on which items are running out, but not alarmingly." "I do not believe that this situation is due so much to the uncertainty as to the desire to celebrate," says José Antonio Ros. "Companies are more aware of employees after the pandemic and it shows," they say from El Portal, a company that for the Christmas campaign goes from 14 to 120 employees and distributes around 250,000 Christmas batches in Aragon.
Will common products be missing from the baskets?
José Antonio Ros does consider that the shortage of some alcoholic beverages and spirits may be a “possible” problem. “It is not due to the lack of product stocks, but to the auxiliary raw material. There are multinationals that use a certain glass for their bottles and that is what is not arriving ”. "In our case, if there is not a certain liquor, we offer others, just as it can happen with wines."
"In the end, we have to agree with the customer to make the basket to his liking, but adapting to the products that we know we will have no problem finding."
