  4. Chapter II - The Creation.
  5. The Father and the Son engaged in the mighty, wondrous
  6. work they had contemplated, of creating the world. The earth
  7. came forth from the hand of the Creator exceedingly beautiful.
  8. There were mountains, and hills, and plains; and interspersed
  9. among them were rivers and bodies of water. The earth was not
  10. one extensive plain, but the monotony of the scenery was broken
  11. by hills and mountains, not high and ragged as they now are, but
  12. regular and beautiful in shape. The bare, high rocks were never
  13. seen upon them, but lay beneath the surface, answering as bones
  14. to the earth. The waters were regularly dispersed. The hills,
  15. mountains, and very beautiful plains, were adorned with plants
  16. and flowers, and tall, majestic trees of every description, which
  17. were many times larger, and much more beautiful, than trees now
  18. are. The air was pure and healthful, and the earth seemed like a
  19. noble palace. Angels beheld and rejoiced at the wonderful and
  20. beautiful works of God.
  21. After the earth was created, and the beasts upon it, the Father
  22. and Son carried out their purpose, which was designed before the
  23. fall of Satan, to make man in their own image. They had wrought
  24. together in the creation of the earth and every living thing upon
  25. it. And now God says to
  26. 24
  27. his Son, “Let us make man in our image.” As Adam came forth
  28. from the hand of his Creator, he was of noble height, and of
  29. beautiful symmetry. He was more than twice as tall as men now
  30. living upon the earth, and was well proportioned. His features
  31. were perfect and beautiful. His complexion was neither white,
  32. nor sallow, but ruddy, glowing with the rich tint of health. Eve
  33. was not quite as tall as Adam. Her head reached a little above his
  34. shoulders. She, too, was noble—perfect in symmetry, and very
  35. beautiful.
  36. This sinless pair wore no artificial garments. They were
  37. clothed with a covering of light and glory, such as the angels
  38. wear. While they lived in obedience to God, this circle of light
  39. enshrouded them. Although everything God had made was in
  40. the perfection of beauty, and there seemed nothing wanting upon
  41. the earth which God had created to make Adam and Eve happy,
  42. yet he manifested his great love to them by planting a garden
  43. especially for them. A portion of their time was to be occupied
  44. in the happy employment of dressing the garden, and a portion in
  45. receiving the visits of angels, listening to their instruction, and in
  46. happy meditation. Their labor was not wearisome, but pleasant
  47. and invigorating. This beautiful garden was to be their home,
  48. their special residence.
  49. In this garden the Lord placed trees of every variety for
  50. usefulness and beauty. There were trees laden with luxuriant
  51. fruit, of rich fragrance, beautiful to the eye, and pleasant to the
  52. taste, designed of God to be food for the holy pair. There were
  53. the lovely vines which grew upright, laden with their burden of
  54. fruit, unlike anything man had seen since the fall. The fruit was
  55. very
  56. 25
  57. large, and of different colors; some nearly black, some purple,
  58. red, pink and light green. This beautiful and luxuriant growth of
  59. fruit upon the branches of the vine was called grapes. They did
  60. not trail upon the ground, although not supported by trellises, but
  61. the weight of the fruit bowed them down. It was the happy labor
  62. of Adam and Eve to form beautiful bowers from the branches of
  63. the vine, and train them, forming dwellings of nature’s beautiful,
  64. living trees and foliage, laden with fragrant fruit.
  65. The earth was clothed with beautiful verdure, while myriads
  66. of fragrant flowers of every variety and hue sprang up in rich
  67. profusion around them. Everything was tastefully and gloriously
  68. arranged. In the midst of the garden stood the tree of life, the
  69. glory of which surpassed all other trees. Its fruit looked like
  70. apples of gold and silver, and was to perpetuate immortality. The
  71. leaves contained healing properties.
  72. Very happy were the holy pair in Eden. Unlimited control was
  73. given them over every living thing. The lion and the lamb sported
  74. together peacefully and harmlessly around them, or slumbered at
  75. their feet. Birds of every variety of color and plumage flitted
  76. among the trees and flowers, and about Adam and Eve, while
  77. their mellow-toned music echoed among the trees in sweet accord
  78. to the praises of their Creator.

  80. Adam and Eve were charmed with the beauties of their Eden
  81. home. They were delighted with the little songsters around them,
  82. wearing their bright yet graceful plumage, and warbling forth
  83. their happy, cheerful music. The holy pair united with them
  84. and raised their voices in harmonious songs of love, praise and
  85. adoration, to the Father
