  1. The #COVID19 pandemic is a crisis like no other, and it is impacting the world’s poorest at a particular moment of peril.
  2. In 2019, almost half of all low-income countries were in debt distress or at a high risk of it.
  3. This year’s World Bank Group International Debt Statistics Report (IDS) details more debtor and creditor data on external debt than ever before in its nearly 70-year history, taking important strides in filling existing data gaps for low- and middle-income countries where the risks are greatest.
  4. Achieving long-term debt sustainability will depend on a large-scale shift in the world’s approach to debt and investment transparency, and IDS provides a unique data set to shape the solutions that will be needed in the coming years.
