  329. Opera is both designed and maintained by Opera Software.
  330. The History of Opera-
  331. Opera was first released publicly with version 2.0 in 1996. This version only ran on Microsoft Windows.
  332. Opera 4.0 was released in 2000 which included a cross-platform core that facilitated the creation of editions of Opera for multiple Operating Systems and platforms.
  333. Opera was trialware, this meant Opera had to be purchased after the trial period ended. Opera 5.0 ended this requirement and became ad-sponsored which displayed ads to users who had not paid for Opera. Later versions of Opera gave users the choice of seeing banner ads or targeted advertisements from Google.
  334. Opera 8.5 was released in 2005, this version ended the advertisements and they were removed completely. Opera is now financially supported by revenue from Google which is Opera's default search engine.
  335. Opera 9.1 was released in 2006 and contained new features such as fraud protection, digital certificate provider, PhishTank.
  336. Opera 9.5 added malware protection from Haute Secure and GeoTruse was replaced with Netcraft.
  337. Editions of Opera were released in 2006 for Nintendo's DS and Wii gaming systems. Opera for Wii was called the "Internet Channel."
  338. Opera 10.5 introduced a new JavaScript engine called Carakan, this made Opera seven times faster than SunSpider in Opera 10.1.
  339. Opera 11 was released on December 16th, 2010, with features such as extensions, tab stacking, visual mouse gestures, and changes to the address bar.
