There is nothing I fear more than being accused of having bad personal hygiene. So it came like a slap in the face that my boyfriend told me I had bad breath. And I’m not talking morning breath…I’m talking I’ve chewed on garlic for a few days kindda breath. He said I had it for a few days.
I wanted to hide under the covers. I spent the next thirty minutes gargling mouthwash and cleaning out my tongue. I went to the chemist and spent $50 on mouthwashes, toothpastes and any other product that claimed to cure dry mouth.
I kept thinking of the previous week and all the poor victims I had subjected to my garlic mouth. My boyfriend kept trying to reassure me. "It happens to everyone," he said. "I"m sure no one noticed," he told me. Where was his honesty early in the week? Why can’t you smell your own breath? And why can’t they invite a breathalyser type of machine to tell you if you have bad breath?
I passed a few breath tests yesterday. "It smells spring clean," my boyfriend said. And I’ve asked all of my co workers who look at me very strangely. I guess that is true friendship…when you can ask you friends to smell your breath and tell if you smell badly! I do not want to be labelled Mr bad smelly breath guy.
