  6. With the rise of the industrial nations in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, respect for nature was relinquished, and human control and domination of nature and her resources began. It was during this domination that a minute fraction of civilization began to look at Earth as a whole, as a living organism, and called it Gaia.
  7. Over the time frame of less than one and a half centuries, Gaia's health had declined dramatically to a point where all species on the planet began to suffer health issues to a point that epidemics could not be stemmed with medicines, or even poisons, all treatments of the symptoms reacted just as if more damage was being applied.
  8. In the face of government corpotocracy, a minor portion of humanity began to awaken to the devastating effects the dominant civilization had on the planet and began to form small pockets of resistance to the powers that be and their minions.
  9. Environmental organisations were formed in many bio-regions to address individual concerns of pollution, deforestation, or other environmental issues, but many of these were isolated and doomed to fail when the principal organizers began to retire or die and the programs or organisations dissolved.
  10. However, no once seemed to want to take ownership and walk the talk, and live permanently in the restored or reclaimed environment. This is about to change.
