According to a report published in China CDC Weekly by the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Chinese mathematicians claim that the Asian giant cannot afford to lift travel restrictions without more effective vaccines or more effective special treatments.
Using August data from the United States, Britain, Spain, France and Israel, the mathematicians evaluated the potential outcomes if China adopted the same pandemic control tactics as those countries, concluding that the consequences would be a “maviso” outbreak of COVID. -19.
Specifically, China's daily new cases would reach at least 637,155 if it adopted the United States' strategy to deal with the pandemic, according to the report.
Thus, daily cases would reach 275,793 if China implemented the same strategy as Great Britain, and 454,198 if it imitated France, the report points out.
"The estimates reveal the real possibility of a huge outbreak that would certainly put a strain on the medical system," he says.
"Our findings have been a clear warning that, at the moment, we are not prepared to adopt 'openness' strategies based on herd immunity derived from vaccination that some Western countries advocate," he says.
China has maintained a zero-tolerance policy for COVID-19, noting that the ability to contain local cases when detected exceeds efforts to locate, isolate and treat those infected.
China reported 23 new confirmed cases of coronavirus as of November 27, up from 25 the day before, local health authorities reported Sunday.
The World Health Organization (WHO) released on Friday a new variant of COVID-19 under the name "omicron", detected in South Africa with a large number of mutations and classified as "worrisome", which has led to some countries to impose travel restrictions.
