Jose Mourinho has thrown the challenge of beating Tottenham this weekend to his Manchester United players after tearing into them for the second time in 48 hours following the shock defeat to Huddersfield.
Mourinho berated his team in the away dressing-room at the John Smith’s Stadium last weekend in the wake of their first Premier League defeat of the season.
But the United boss was still fuming when the squad returned to training at Carrington on Monday morning.
United bounced back with a victory over Swansea in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night, but Mourinho wants them to make up for the Huddersfield upset by beating title rivals Tottenham at Old Trafford on Saturday.
The two clubs are level on 20 points, five behind leaders Manchester City, and United can ill afford to let Pep Guardiola’s side move any further ahead.
Mourinho received a boost ahead of the game yesterday when Marcus Rashford and Ander Herrera both trained after picking up knocks at Swansea.
Eric Bailly also took part in the session after missing the last four games with a groin strain, as did Phil Jones, who limped off in the first half at Huddersfield with a thigh injury.
