Could Samsung be ready to unveil its own pair of augmented reality glasses at the end of the year?
It’s all about wearable technology, that’s what we’re being told about 2014. So could Samsung be ready to take another step forward in the wearable technology world and take on the market for smartglasses?
According to a report by the Korea Times, Samsung is prepping to unveil a headset in Berlin this September. The headset which would rival competitors such as Google Glass is currently in development by the company and will be revealed at the annual IFA conference. It would make sense as Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Gear smartwatch there last year and has unveiled a Galaxy Note device for the last three years.
What we also know is the high tech spectacles have been patented in Korea and include a camera on the front, built-in earphones and a wired connection to your smartphone.
The whole idea is similar to other wearable technologies, you want to see alerts coming in from your smartphone without removing it from your pocket. The specific lenses will also be made by the company's own display division.
Not much else is known about the device as of yet. We don’t know what kind of handsets the headset would work with, or if there will be a testing phase like with Google Glass. Obviously at this early stage the price remains elusive too.
We do know though that the company has seen the huge cash potential in the wearable technology market.
Now for the exciting patent sketches!
We’re assuming these drawings aren’t the finished product, when it actually launches we are hoping for a wireless device as we can't see many users choosing this over Google Glass if there's a wire hanging out of it.
Hopefully we’ll hear some more details at IFA in September but something is telling us there will be some more leaks to come before then.
