1. Inviting the family (older ppl) to eat only happened in Northern Vietnam. Cuz for a long long time teachers have been teaching kids that first things first we have to learn bout politeness, and anything else after that. It shows their respect to older ppl for sure cuz 'invite' here means letting them eat first. For an example when a kid invites his dad to eat, its like: 'Dad, u've had a hard-working day at work, so u have to eat first, u should eat good parts in dish first, I'll follow u.'
2. U remind me bout thing a foreigner friend of mine told me before like: 'U seems worry and scare too much bout bunch of bullshit, just take it easy man.' But it's Vietnam man, media bring out all kinds of shit intimidating ppl (especially housewives) - that's why ppl constantly feel anxious and hopeless.
3. Ur right. It makes no sense. I don't know... Blame it on the level of awareness? Perhaps.
4. English is still a fancy, fabulous thing in Vietnam. They tryna be smarter with a cloak of English on. Even don't understand a word?! They don't care. The only thing they care is when a neighbor come by looking at the wedding album and exclaim: 'Wow, it looks so dope man, very professional, high-class,...'
5. Vietnam is a developing country, also called a less developed country or underdeveloped country - U know what they say in Vietnam: 'If I had 3 meals per day, enough clothes (don't have to be naked - seriously), I would be so freakin' happy and blessed.' Most of them are farmers, or they come from countryside, how could they know how to follow new trends, new styles, or at least how to mix it up logically and beautifully if they don't have enough clothes to wear?! Now it's changing but u still can see it everywhere tho.
P/s: I think sometimes it's not weird things, it just rich and poor, progressive and conservative.
