  1. St. Helena, California,
  2. November, 1901
  3. “Behold, I set before you this day a blessing and a curse; a blessing,
  4. if ye obey the commandments of the Lord your God, which I
  5. command you this day: and a curse, if ye will not obey.” Deuteronomy
  6. 11:26-28.
  7. “And it shall come to pass, if ye shall hearken diligently unto
  8. My commandments which I command you this day, to love the Lord
  9. your God, and to serve Him with all your heart and with all your
  10. soul, that I will give you the rain of your land in his due season, the
  11. first rain and the latter rain, that thou mayest gather in thy corn, and
  12. thy wine, and thine oil. And I will send grass in thy fields for thy
  13. cattle, that thou mayest eat and be full. Take heed to yourselves, that
  14. your heart be not deceived, and ye turn aside, and serve other gods,
  15. and worship them; and then the Lord’s wrath be kindled against you,
  16. and He shut up the heaven, that there be no rain, and that the land
  17. yield not her fruit; and lest ye perish quickly from off the good land
  18. which the Lord giveth you.” Verses 13-17.
  19. “Therefore shall ye lay up these My words in your heart and in
  20. your soul, and bind them for a sign upon your hand, that they may
  21. be as frontlets between your eyes. And ye shall teach them your
  22. children, speaking of them when thou sittest in thine house, and
  23. when thou walkest by the way, when thou liest down, and when thou
  24. risest up. And thou shalt write them upon the doorposts of thine
  25. house, and upon thy gates: that your days may be multiplied, and the
  26. days of your children, in the land which the Lord sware unto your
  27. fathers to give them, as the days of heaven upon the earth.” Verses
  28. [82] 18-21.
  29. If Seventh-day Adventists had walked in the way of the Lord,
  30. refusing to allow selfish interests to control them, the Lord would
  31. greatly have blessed them. Those who have remained in Battle Creek
  32. contrary to the will of the Lord have lost the valuable experience and

  34. Neglected Warning 83
  35. the spiritual knowledge they might have gained through obedience.
  36. Many of them have forfeited the favor of God. The heart of the
  37. work has become congested. For a long time the warning has been
  38. given, but it has not been heeded. The reason for this disobedience
  39. is that the hearts and minds of many in Battle Creek are not under
  40. the influence of the Holy Spirit. They do not realize how much work
  41. there is to do. They are asleep.
  42. When Seventh-day Adventists move into cities where there is
  43. already a large church of believers, they are out of place, and their
  44. spirituality becomes weaker and weaker. Their children are exposed
  45. to many temptations. My brother, my sister, unless you are absolutely
  46. needed in carrying forward the work in such a place, it would
  47. be wise for you to go to some place where the truth has not yet been
