  1. It's that season of year once more: College football's preseason rankings will no uncertainty look in no way like the ones that issue in December, but then we lap them up in mid-August as table-setters for another season. There appears to be no prevailing group that will wipe the floor with whatever is left of the nation, and no under seven or eight groups have a true blue possibility of winding up taking in the confetti in Atlanta on Jan. 8, yet every group who splits the preseason rankings can talk itself into a possible playoff way.
  2. Each of the best groups have questions that will positively be replied as the season jumpstarts. Will Alabama's very late title misfortune to Clemson be the inspiration to get the Crimson Tide to the playoffs for a fourth straight year? Has Ohio State tackled its hostile issues? Is USC the genuine article behind Heisman hopeful Sam Darnold? Will a dim steed undermine and potentially even join the playoff regulars?
  3. The following are the preseason control rankings (which exist for an unexpected reason in comparison to SI's Preseason Top 25), alongside one motivation behind why each group will and won't make school football's last four.
