  1. David Moskowitz has attended a couple bitcoin
  2. related meetups in Singapore. During the second
  3. meetup he decided to organize Singapore’s 1st
  4. Satoshi Square, with open outcry bidding letting
  5. folks exchange between Singapore Dollars and
  6. Bitcoins. We had the opportunity of chatting with
  7. him about the experience and hearing his
  8. perspective on being a Bitcoin user from Singapore.
  9. Ruben Alexander: When did you first hear about
  10. Bitcoin?
  11. David Moskowitz: My main business is helping
  12. people set up subscription websites and payment
  13. systems are a big part of that setup. I had heard
  14. of BitPay a couple of years ago as a possible
  15. payment solution, but didn’t look into it. There were
  16. plenty of payment systems available, and I didn’t
  17. see the need to add another one. I’m definitely not an
  18. early adopter of technologies – I tend to wait and
  19. see how they develop. For products, there’s usually
  20. a good price drop as well if you are willing to wait.
  21. Then about 6 months ago, in a forum for the
  22. software I deal with someone pointed out accepting
  23. bitcoin again, and I took a deeper look. Soon after
  24. that the media started talking about it and
  25. suddenly interest really shot up. I asked the
  26. software vendor to add taking bitcoin to their release
  27. schedule. I bought my first bitcoin about 2 months
  28. ago (after the May correction) and have now started
  29. integrating it into the systems I set up for my own
  30. sites.
  31. RA: What inspired you to start Singapore’s first
  32. Satoshi Square?
  33. DM: I think initially the thought came when I
  34. heard that the bar we would have the meetup at
  35. would be accepting bitcoin. I figured there may be
  36. some people there who may want to buy some to use
  37. to buy drinks – and an open outcry seemed like a
  38. fun way to do it. I proposed the idea to the meetup
  39. organizers and they ok’d it.
  40. RA: What typically has been discussed at these
  41. meetups?
  42. DM: At the one I went to it was general networking
  43. with other bitcoin enthusiasts discussing how they
  44. got into bitcoin, how they are buying/selling.
  45. Sharing some ideas on how to spread the word
  46. about bitcoin. We also discussed some ideas for
  47. possible business ventures in the space.
